UnReal World

what to do? - I need an axe to make profit.
so I started out with the fisherman's scenario, I'm close to setting up a raft so I can get my nets set.

however, my fisher's knife is proving to be a block in my efforts to make stuff for trade.

I can't make staves with it, I can't make a raft with it.

but I know I'll be needing it, or another kind of knife along the road when I set up a trap fence for animals.

also, the other items I have, I'm quite hesitant to sell, because of what exactly they are-

a nothern spear- which is my tribe weapon.
a kaumo spear- which is my strongest weapon on hand.

I'm hesitant on selling my kaumo spear because of its power, but yet i'm considering using it to buy a good axe, and a punt, so I can save my bought ropes for other things.

either that, or my fisher's knife so I can get a handaxe.

what should I do?

Two routes;
If fishing is going well, you can sell fish. You may not have enough fish to by a handaxe (axe) but you can sell fish for items, then in turn trade the items to reach an axe and/or better knife.

Make a stone axe as fisher's knife is pretty limited. I think a stone axe is capable to build raft.

@privateer

ok, now should I sell the fish fresh? or cooked?

I think cooked food has a slightly higher value (plus increasing your skill), so I'd probably roast it, also depending on distance to town, raw might be easier if it's very close.

Having two spears isn't helping you. Keep one (I recommend the northern, it doubles as a ski stick) and go for the trade. You NEED an axe. A stone axe is a shoddy replacement for a real one so save that challenge for a playthrough where you don't have the option to get one another way. Keep the knife unless you have another already (Fisher knife is pretty low on the scale but it's a knife).

Knife and axe are the two essential tools.

Also note, that late in the basic game course you're given a handaxe (incidently it's the task to build a raft...go figure). I highly recommend completing that course. Even after ...10 years(?) playing...I still usually end up doing the course and just discarding the items I don't need.

figures. oh well, live and learn.

now anyways, I'm close to some drik settlements, with a variety of items.

which axe (broad/splitting/carving) would be a better choice to get over a handaxe, if available?

if the hand axe is good enough without a significant loss of time, then I'll probably get a shovel and another net with it was well, since my wooden one will ultimately require more time to dig pits with it.

I'd offer that in the course of a game, you'll use an axe hundreds of times. You might use a shovel 10-20 times. If I had to choose a second axe, I'd probably go with a carving axe, because I usually use found tree trunks rather than felling them. But I'd put a woodsman's axe as a second choice; it is a good improvement over the handaxe when felling stuff. But if you're really into cabin-making, a broad axe + carving axe might be a good pick, too.

All of the axes have a specialty, start with getting a woodsmans axe, then a carving axe. Get the other axes later on when you are comfortable with what you have. If you have all or at least a couple of different axes, building a cabin is much quicker.

Think of the handaxe as the sort of universal axe. It will do anything somewhat well but for every job there is a better axe out there. For example: my current character has a 40 tile cabin, 600 tiles under cultivation all fenced in, and a trapfence that spans many km....all made with a handaxe. It's the best if you only have one, or great to be the one you just carry all the time.

Woodsman's or carving axe is probably the next "best". Woodsman's is good for combat and rips through trees but is unwieldy for crafting. Carving is the exact opposite which makes it something every character really wants eventually.

The others are extremely specialized. Splitting is pretty much only used for quick and easy planks and firewood. Broadaxe is great for making trunks into logs and decent for felling...but is pretty bad for crafting. Battle is okay for cutting down trees but only really excels at killing.

the problem is... I cannot get past the ritual part. After the ritual overhaul, most rituals are not incantations. You have to perform an action to do them, like kicking a tree in order to keep a squirrel from running around, or place a trap near women, so it gets lucky. Sadly... those rituals don't really register!

If you want to progress with game course all you need to do is sacrifice some unspoiled food.
