Frozen Ground?
I am trying to get this last little bit of a large trap fence line setup, but winter rolled in pretty fast and now it says I can't dig holes because the ground is too frozen.

I lit a fire on the spot for an hour to warm up the ground, but this didn't allow me to dig either.

Is it even possible to dig with that message?

Enjoying the game way more than I could have imagined! Nearly takes me back to the original Wasteland days, but this is so much deeper. Thanks creators if you are watching.

Thanks!

Just did a quick google search, and it seems other people had this issue awhile ago. I don't know if its been implemented since then, but it certainly wasn't a feature or mod when these people were playing:

In reality, when winter freezes the ground it becomes almost impossible to dig it with the tools available to your character in the URW.

You cannot dig in the ground at all during wintertime, this is an intentional feature.

Awesome, thanks for the responses. I won't try to get around it. I just built extra fences. Will put in a new Pit Trap when the world thaws. 1/2 way through my first Winter, exciting stuff!

Also running into more Robbers and the N guys. Does the frequency of that go up as time goes on, or because of winter and folks are wondering more to find food?

Thanks!

The frequency does not go up as time goes on, and I don't believe the season has any impact on NPC travel. If anything, there should probably be less during winter. Get through your first winter and the rest should come naturally! Especially once you have established safe-houses where you can bunker down with some tasty meats or fish and practice your carpentry.

Thanks for the response. Guess I'm just lucky? (Luck is Neutral Force BTW). Yeah I got lots of smoked food and started drying kills once the weather got cold enough. I should have enough food... Famous last words. Hopefully the 3 full Trap Fence lines I have going will pay off. Now I need to get salt for the training Quest. Will be 4-5 days of travel to get the D's at the coast. Thinking I'll wait till after winter for that!

It might be easiest to get to the Driik during the winter due to the amount of rivers and lakes

Yeah... Ended up trying anyhow and fell through the ice and wasn't paying attention and it looks I drowned. Hopefully I can recover the save, because dying to that is not acceptable lol As far as nice ways to go though I hear hypothermia is a decent way...

Unless you made a back-up of your save beforehand there is no way to recover it.

Thank you! I did not quit the game when I died, so I was able to ALT-TAB and make a copy of the save folder and reload. Kinda lame I know, but when I die I want it to be because a made a poor choice in game, not because I was holding down the key and running while not even looking at the screen :)

If you can't help me A Nickel, is there A Dime, or A Quarter around that could coin in and be of more assistance? ;)

I'm glad you were able to recover your save file then! I agree that sometimes you can make a stupid mistake on total accident so I figure it is OK to keep a savefile backup.

Haha, Just be aware that saving your game that way may work in an emergency, but curruption can occur as file writes are not consistant.

Agree with Privateer, if you can I would take a regular save after you get done playing instead. I had never heard of someone doing that before, so I was a little surprised to hear you managed it.

Ah I see. Yeah, the save I loaded was not the last time I quit. It was part way through my journey.

I will reload again (because crossing ice is apparently very hard to do without falling in (died 3 more times)), and do a proper save before things get screwed.

Thanks so much guys!

When should I invest in Skis?
