I don't remember which NPC gave these crystals, but I think it's the sheep - You'll have to craft the best equipment you can get in a particular dungeon, meaning that you first have to grind for the Elite [dungeon here] Crystals, and then kill all of the mini-bosses of the dungeon.
It's the chest. You have to get EVERY CHEST ON A FLOOR to get one of the three gems rawr.
If only there were a handy-dandy Chest collection guide... U・x・U
For the record, the sheepy gives you +1mp per normal attack whenever you smack something. It's not really much but it's something? >>
And the slime gives you +1 Evasion for each of its quests.
Collectable quest NPCs simply give you items that boost stats. The sword and armour don't affect the ending, but are more powerful than the other items.
You also need the blueprints. When you get to the fallen sanctum, there's a room that's the same as Senia's real bedroom. That's where you search to get the blueprints needed to repair the sword and armour.
You can get a violet crystal on each of the three floors. The armour takes 2 crystals, and the sword takes one. If you get both crystals on Fairy and Demon levels, you can get the armour or sword back as soon as you get the blueprints.
