Also highly reccomend Xanadu Next, the screenshots are deceiving, its very much Diablo meets Zelda, and every piece of gear gets you a new skill after you use it for a while so its alot of fun to try and find and collect them all to unlock every single skill.
Even tho the developer was influenced by Y's 1/2 I kinda liked Senia more. I really wish they'd remaster the first one and get some people behind it. Give it achievements and some extra stuff. The cell phone game was bad I downloaded it just for the hell of it, and its just clicker crap. This game was fun cause it was like Y's but less open ended and confusing and focused more on a story, narration, and an rpg battle system that was fun and addictive. unfortunately its to short. It has a pretty sad ending if you choose to keep fighting but kind of just as sad if you choose to leave unless there was some kind of closure which we never really got and I wasn't interested in the cellphone game. Felt a little odd introducing all these new characters and then blah blah start the auto clicking. No thanks but maybe I'll check the cellphone game out again sometime.
For a game to be influenced by Y's and actually turn out to be just as good as one of the first major rpgs is pretty impressive. As many players that liked the original and wanted more of it you would think they would remaster it, add a price tag, like 10$.. Some new options, and content, and make some money off a real game and not transactions that most people won't buy. It was surprisingly good for a free steam rpg and one of my fav free to play games on steam. But its a very brief and short game that could be a lot longer, and be part of a series with the same actual gameplay it was doing in the first place. Never understood the idea of, if its not broke, fix it anyway.
I would honestly recommend xanadu next before Y's. Mainly cause xanadu is a really fun game that is easy to play and learn. Both Y's games are very confusing altho they play with the same basic idea as senia, walk into an enemy and auto attack, there's a lot of other stuff about Y's that is very confusing and difficult. I remember some of the bosses and levels in senia were challenging but were fun to play and not to frustrating. Y's can be a very difficult game.
As far as any rpg like this, I dunno man this was pretty unique and dramatic and Y's is well a bit macho with the focus on the whole series being one guy named adol who is a knight/fighter type who girls run to and throw themselves in his arms. Like link but with more emphasis on being a man and less on arrows and bombs and stuff.
Its pretty niche but then it came out in the 80s. Xanadu is also similar another knight guy fighting for the love of girls. You may actually be more interested in Valkyrie profile starting on PSX. Valk profile is a highly dramatic game with lots of playable females and males, but the storyline is more focused on the females and men are kinda secondary. Its not the same gameplay as senia its more action turn based but the storyline, cutscenes, and art remind me a lot of senia.
