The ESSENCE-IAL Update has arrived in Crypt Keeper, introducing a powerful new system that gives players more control over how they shape the battlefield.

This update adds Essence, a new strategic resource that allows you to strengthen your undead forces and weaken incoming enemy waves before they even reach your defenses.

To celebrate the update, Crypt Keeper will also be 40% off from March 10–17, making it the perfect time to dive into the crypt.

New Feature: Essence Resource System

Essence is generated from the souls of powerful enemies and can now be harvested during your runs. This new resource opens up entirely new tactical possibilities for how you defend your crypt.

New Building: Ossuary

The Ossuary collects the souls of defeated Hard difficulty enemies and converts them into Essence.

The stronger your Ossuary becomes, the more Essence it produces. Each morning, the Essence gathered from fallen enemies flows back to you, ready to be spent on powerful battlefield manipulation.

New Building: Forge

The Forge allows you to spend Essence on equipment upgrades for your undead army.

You can now purchase:

• Unique helmets

• Enhanced armor

• Stronger swords and bows

• Shields for sword-wielding skeletons

All upgrades are visually represented on your units, making your army stronger and more distinctive with every run.

New Strategic Option: Enemy Spawner Manipulation

Essence can also be spent directly on enemy spawn points, letting you weaken incoming waves before they even appear.

You can now:

• Reduce enemy health by 50%

• Reduce enemy movement speed by 50%

• Reduce enemy damage by 50%

This creates a new tactical layer:
Do you invest in stronger defenses, or manipulate the battlefield itself?

Quality of Life Improvements

This update also introduces several improvements to the core experience:

• Faster unlocks for new biomes and levels

• Improved balancing

• Performance improvements

• A smoother first-run experience, allowing players to focus on learning mechanics before repair systems become necessary
