For a game that requires precision, stealth and attention to detail, the bugs make the game nearly impossible to play and appreciate.
Are you sure you aren't just getting interrupted by a fist to the face or various other blunt objects flying at your head?
In my case, the ground takedown only works when using keyboard and mouse. The pad has been tested on other games the same day without problems. When the pad is used, it will not execute a ground takedown, but when removed the keyboard allows it. I've also had problems with silent takedown not being an option with the pad 80% of the time, which is really frustrating, but again, with the keyboard it works okay.
A friend has the Xbox version, so I asked them to try a ground takedown on my game, and they got the same result I did. I'd probably go for the console version in the future.
It's a shame that a lot of people have a really positive experience with this game, but then some others seem to get landed with bugs or glitches for no identifiable reason. This game has been out a while, so I doubt this matter will get resolved any time soon.
I know I can't participate in the arena fighting sections as this move contributes so much to the rhythm of your attacks.
Still, I managed to finish the story, and it was a pretty fun ride. I hope you can complete it too.
Mind you, maybe it's been patched since I played it last? It's been about four or so months, so maybe it's fine now.
I have been experimenting with simpler and faster layouts to improve timing. Keeping the combat keys at lower left of bottom row under or adjacent to your index and middle fingers, (/,z,x,c) and your "shift" key just to the left of your little finger is working well so far. Much less histrionics!
Your "crouch" key needs to be one of shift, control or alt(?). This then is keyed with your "counter" to generate the ground takedown. The only other actions bound (default) to the "shift" key are Combat Takedown and Throw, so just rebind each of those to their own convenient single key.
As takedown doesn't work for me holding B+Y (gamepad) I am stuck! Any help would be appreciated.. I really want to finish the story at this point.
