Acutel review of this game instead of glazing and rage baiting
I have been playing since launch, (ul 72) i don't play a lot but i play enough.

I will start with the good stuff.

-the gameplay is FANTASTIC (for a gacha) it's easily the best, the team building isn't deep (i prefer deep team building but you can ignore this) but the combat is really smooth and skill plays a big role (unlike most gachas out there)

-the visuals are also the best in gachas and really good overall, the combat animations, the graphics, the character models are all really damn good.

-the devs are good. They always add new things that are requested/requested in other games, and they respond when a big problem happens. And there is good qol like a skip button.
(Tbh they still ignore the fan base sometimes so they still aren't the perfect game dev everyone is talking about)

-right amount of content, the content in this game is the right amount, not too much and not too little, which is great, especially for ppl who like logging in every day/other day, instead of a few long settings or ALL the time.

-its f2p, most modern gachas are f2p tbh, the gem count is great the pity is good and the rates are fine.
Some things i have to mention is that most characters aren't that flexible, and every new character is meta for a it's element. And the whiwa gamemod (waves battle, you aim for the high score) is very hard for f2p players that don't pull sigs, kuro has acknowledged this tho.
These things might affect the game in the future so i had to mention them.

-(edited) the side quests are good, they are short and usually come with a nice idea, it still doesn't make up for the exploration lackings but It's worth mentioning.

And the character quest explain the characters story nicely, and have nice mini-games.

Now for the bad,

-the story is mid at best (only 2.0 is mid, the rest is just bad) it's not interested there isn't much of an overarching story other than "save the world" and the mc is just "yeah lets help everyone while being super powerful" like 99% of other gachas. And the game is constantly trying to ship the mc with the girls in the main story,

What i said above can be said to most gachas but what this story is bad at is it's characters, the characters almost never interact with each other aside from planing and doing "mission stuff" they don't they feel like humans but rather a tool for the plot and the mc to use.
And the villeins aren't getting enough screen time, i enjoyed the 1.0 quest cuz of scar and nothing more.

(I talked a lot about the story cuz i play games for the story)

-its repetitive. again a gacha things but this time it's really repetitive. i said that the game has the perfect amount but it's all combat with nothing creative or new, only a few events bring something new (the fishing and parkour).
And the same events are always rerunning.

-the exploration is boring, it's fast and that is it, the world is really flat with a lot of empty areas, it doesn't motivate you to explore, it's just motivates you to go to areas and get the chest/do one of the same really easy 4 puzzles and that is it.

This might be your thing but atp you just hate "exploring" and just want the gems. Cuz this isn't even exploring.

The 1.1 map was great tho 1.0 and 1.3 are good but nothing crazy. So this applies to the newer maps only.

-the characters are bland, basically what i said about them in the story section.
They have good back stories but that doesn't carry them, some have good personalities like brant, zani, and aalto, but the rest are the definition of bland.

-the game is not creative, not saying that the themes or designs are bad, it's just not creative.

-(gacha thing) it's grindy.

(If i didn't talk about something it means that i don't know enough about, aka the lore)

In conclusion, the game is a 50/50 if you like gameplay and action, go for it, if you like stories and characters more, it's not worth your time.

Lastly is it better than genshin? My answer is what i said right above this. If you want an action game this is better, if you want a casual and chill story game genshin is better.

edit: i will just say that this game has a bad fandom, 99% of the CCs are drama farmers with no content beside "genshin bad wuwa good" and they have a big following. if you ever played it stay away from the fandom for the sake of your sanity. they wont accept anything that isn't praising the game

Edit for 2.2: everything is pretty much the same, the story improved but wasn't fixed.

(Copied from a reply i made) i still think the story is mid at best. 1.1 to 2.0 were bad imo, the build up was poor, almost no interactions (2.0 had a few) no proper overarching plot, no loss/struggle, and the plot was uninteresting, it was just
> go to do something important

> Sthe focus switch to the waifu

> See sad waifu backstory

> Save waifu

2.0 plot was different, but it was meh.

2.2 had all the problems except the lack of build up, the plot was really good but the same "waifu" thing, Cartethyia writing was good tho (wasted on mc waifu tho).

We kinda had some struggle in the last fight but that was it, it was like 20 secs and we got saved and won. And everyone is morally white and good (the usual)

One thing only:

If you dont care about the story and you play only because the combat is PEAK there is a SKIP button un 98% of the cutscenes. There are even mini "sum-up" of what you are skipping if you want.

I forget to add that but yeah it's there.
I personally really care about stories so i won't skip anything, unless it's side quests idc about.
That's nice to see a post without war in it and nicely summarized. Have a <3

Noice and valid Review
glad to see someone who doesn't glaze wuwa or glaze genshin whilst bashing the other, they've both got their good points and their bad points and I love playing both

I've been playing WuWa for a few months and mostly agree with the post. I'd just like to add that some story arcs are quite good (Encore story arc was quite touching, Cantarella questline was also quite good and there are probably other character quests that are good but I have not spent the time to do them) - some are part of the main questline and some are character related. Having said that, let me reiterate and agree with the above review - most quests are bland not interesting...

Its a great gacha game compared to others, but the story and everything else feels really lacking. I play the game and follow the story and for the great combat, The cutscenes are also very nice, but after finishing the main quests, the game starts to feel bland. Now most of the times I just log on to do the dailies.

The moment I gave up on this game's writing is the same time I started liking the game overall. They tend to squeeze one arc per patch (like Black Shore arc and Cartethyia's arc) making the build up too short which results with its ending feeling too sudden or unrewarding (for me at least).

WuWa clearly is not the type of game I would play for hours daily like I did with RDR2 and TLOU. The moment I finish the new patch, I just login for 5 minutes for the dailies/weeklies and move on with my day.

Yeah, sadly they didn't addressed the recent big problem at all

I agree with most of your points, except the part about the story being mid/bad and the characters lacking personality. That *is* mostly true for 1.x, but post 2.0 I feel like it's stepped up immensely and is more a matter of opinion.

For anyone getting into the game, be aware that anything pre Rinascita (the 2.0 area) is very hit or miss. It feels like a trial run.

Once you get to Rinascita, the game suddenly transforms into an entirely different experience. The story pacing is way better, the voice acting feels alive, the area visuals skyrocket, the music... All of it just jumps up in quality. I was ready to drop the game before, but this arc completely changed my mind.

The latest story segment (2.2) has arguably some of the best done moments in any video game. Many have said the cutscenes almost feel like they're watching a high-budget anime.

This might just be personal opinion, though. The premise is what you'd expect from a gacha, but for me, it's those key story moments that leave an impact (rather than the overarching plot).

I notice a lot of people pushing 2.0 the same way FF14 hw was pushed compared to ff14 ARR and while yes overall 2.0 is a big step up it should really highlighted that MT firmanent is quite good in terms of story and map design and the blackshores was an incredible area(probably still my favourite area).
Blackshores had a very somber feeling compared to Rinascita but there was some really excelent story telling,Was a lot of important character development for main character.the area design feels quite unique with some very well designed albeit frustrating mini bosses not to mention the incredible music.
the story got better since 1.1 jinshi made me cry a bit, God I love her, Shorekeeper was good too but a little fast paced, Camellya hmmmm it was ok, 2.0 was HUGE glow up, 2.2 was so goood it makes me glaze for Kuro

Just a re minder to anyone considering this game - it's still a gatcha and the RNG will mess you up sometimes...

I think Shorekeepers wasnt as long because the main story in black shores covered a lot about her anyway.
Camellyas i feel could have been longer,It also left me with more questions than answers about what went on with rover at the blackshores in his past.I still think it was well written though.
To be honest i hope they do cover more lore about the blackshores in future content,
I feel there is still a lot of lore potential with it.

it's a gacha, why do people expect to have no life content to play daily?

true, but with pity it's easy to calculate.
you'll be able to get roughly one 5* each patch without paying if you're lucky (more consistent with pass+BP), which might be the one you want or not. which means if you really want a specific character, you need to save (or pay).

otoh you don't really need every character, nor much afterwards (weapon or resonance chains).
