How in the world do you lockpick

I don't want to overstate this or be hyperbolic, but I've been messing with this lockpicking for 15 mins or so and I think it's the hardest, most confusing puzzle minigame I've ever come across bar none. There was basically no tutorial, the image of the lock they give you is weird, I don't know what I"m looking at really. I think it's the least intuitive puzzle minigame I've ever come across. I don't get what I'm doing, I don't see what they want me to do, and it's not explained very well in my opinion.

Can anyone tell me how this works? I couldn't find any video tutorials on youtube, only videos about what happens if you quit while lockpicking.

I totally feel you I was so confused too, it is actually ridiculous. The only way I found to make it easier is taking these locks back all the time - in the top right corner it will show you to right click your mouse to “remove” the lock pick. This lock pick will then appear in the pouch on the left. If not all the lock pick are shown there click left shift (to switch lock) and click the right mouse button again to remove yet another lock pick. After that you should have all the lock picks shown on the left. Choose the lock pick that will work for an individual module and put it on the module it fits with and then do it again for the second module. I recommend to take back, remove all the lock pics every time you move on to the next barrier/ stage of it.
