No but you really should play the previous games "Sherlock Holmes: crimes and punishments"
That game was great and actually looks much better than this one.
You don't have to, but I highly suggest you play Jack the Ripper or Crimes and Punishments. Those two are favorite by far for sherlock.

I enjoyed the testament of sherlock holmes and crimes and punishment. This is similar, and the story line seems to be a continuation from the testament.

testaments and crimes and punishments are great titles

It makes more sense if you've played the Testament of Sherlock Holmes first.

Crimes and Punishment was my 2nd favorite, with Jack the Ripper being the first. C&P and Testament are from the "new era" though, in this new engine with all this detail. Too bad they changed the VAs for the characters...kept Lestrade old looking, yet made Holmes and Watson so much younger. Just doesn't seem right. Too many "actiony" phases for my taste too. C&P would be a good start; didn't really care for Testament all that much, but I understand many people did actually like it a lot.

I agree C&P was a good one, but this one is directly linked to Testament, so while it can be played without playing that one it is more enjoyable and makes more sense if you do.

So I should play Testament first then C&P then this one correct?

Yes.

I didn't realize that. How so? It has been a long time since I've played Testament..

Without spoiling it for the OP it's where the most important character in this game, besides Holmes and Watson, is first introduced. From what I remember they don't appear at all in C&P.

But keep in mind that you can also start with this one if you don't want to "have to" play the older games first. It's not as strongly story linked as many other narrative games or anything, more like the Holmes book stories where some threads are consistent but each case is basically self contained.

I've got to ask if you've acutally finished this game? Yes the individual cases have no link to Testament, but the narrative outside of those has a direct link to the events and outcome of Testament.
