Won't Launch
I'll get the "preparing to launch menu" and will be shown as "in-game" for a couple second and then nothing.

My Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
RAM: 8GB
OS: WIN7 64
DIRECT X: DX11

All my drivers are up to date, I have enough HDD space, I've verified my cache files, launched with "-nosettingslimit", restarted steam and my pc multiple times, reinstalled and repaired Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) and deleted and reinstalled the game itself but nothing has worked.

When I bought Crimes and Punishment this exact same thing happened and ended up just playing on my really crap laptop that I don't have anymore so I can't even do that now. Needless to say, this is very frustrating and I hope you can fix this issue.

you can check if there are some dlls missed on your PC with dependency walker program http://www.dependencywalker.com/

For Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter you must use the 64 bit version of program, for Crimes and Punishments 32 bit (depends on game executable architecture).

I got the message "Error: At least one file was not a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module." How do I find out which one/s?

I think I figured it out. The file D3DCOMPILER_43.DLL and XAPOFX1_5.DLL are the two affected files. Does that make sense to you?

Fixed it by deleting the above corrupted files and re-downloading DirectX.

Thanks for your help, Tanidar. I'm very happy with the customer support.

I'm sorry this is much more complicated then I had to deal with so I don't know! Tanidar, can we get your help with this please?
Tanidar Dec 13, 2016 @ 8:12am
32 bit version of D3DX9_43.DLL is not the right one, try to install again <steam>\steamapps\common\Sherlock Holmes - The Devil's Daughter\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP.exe

This can fix the version but sometime (read very often) Microsoft things are not works as this supposed to. In this case you must open Jun2010_d3dx9_43_x64.cab from DirectX installator folder and copy D3DX9_43.DLL from there to c:\windows\system32 or game executable folder
