Not using Kerry Shale (Voice actor for Sherlock in the other games) - a huge loss to this title
I've only just fired this up, but I was immediately struck by something being off. At first I thought it was the writing, as I beleive other people have commented on, but then I realised it wasn't so much that but just simply Sherlock's voice.

Kerry Shale was phenomenal in the role. Reboot or otherwise, not hiring him was a huge mistake.

I'm currently trying to 'get over' the difference, but I'm very close to refunding. It seems extreme, but the last guy was just so damn good, and this new fella just doesn't have the contemptuous sarcasm which I associate with Sherlock - Thanks to the excellent performances of Mr. Shale. :steamsad:

Mostly agree. Kerry Shale was good in those games, as the character design for Holmes seemed to draw inspiration from Peter Cushing's portrayal, and Shale was a perfect match. For this game, I get the sense that they were going for a younger Holmes, in kindof a Benedict Cumberbatch/Robert Downey Jr. vein. And by extension, a younger Watson. And with the new character design, came the requirement for a voice to go with it. This voice actor was a reasonable match for this Holmes. Shale maybe wouldn’t have been as good a fit.

Didn’t much care for Watson’s character design, though. Visually, he looked like a smug douchbag that I’d want to punch for hitting on my sister at a bar. And his actions and motivations in the game were not a match for the visual representation at all.

It wasn’t a complete deal breaker for me, except that we saw these complete strangers in what is essentially the same setting. Browsing the archives, and hearing the “That’s not the one I need” clip repeatedly was less annoying.

The problem, I think, as I mentioned in my post, is that we’re expected to accept that this is a new Holmes, but at the same time not. Which makes Shale’s absence even more unsettling.

Agreed. Good points.

I'm near the end of the game now. Overall, it's all right; but far inferior to the previous instalment. The 'balancing on a pole' bits and 'stealth segments' are really tedious and, for me, contribute nothing (I just skip as soon as it comes up).

The 'pieceing together the order of events' bits are nice, and the actual detective work is the best and, in my opinion, what they should focus on more.

Hopefully we'll see a return to form in the next itteration.

Looked at the screenshots, thought it looked as if they had taken some unfortunate inspiration from that show. The main character looks like something from a zombie survival game.
Different voice actor?
Definitely waiting for this to be on sale.

yeah i agree, i got this game on sale ater having just finished crimes and punishment and Mr Shale's voice has gone straight to the top with so so much as i was keen on hearing him again in this installment. i must say i'm a bit saddened by this fact.
Also is it me or did they make Dr watson look more like jude law from the movies?

Glad I'm not the only one... Already was bummed out by the change for Watson in Crimes and Punishment but changing Holmes voice is really not working at all for me...

And it's not even that the new voice is bad or anything. It's fitting the character design they made quite well I have to say after the first hour or so. It's just not fitting for Sherlock Holmes IMO :/ The previous VA was the perfect choice for Sherlock Holmes. I didn't even notice it was a different one than the titles before 2010 whose VA was fitting for Sherlock Holmes as well.

I guess this will be the last game in the series for me... I was kinda interested in the new game and the remake of The Awakened but the voice not being the same is really killing the vibe for me right now. And with the latest game being a prequel I doubt they went back to the old VA.

I looked into this on the remake's forum a while back and unfortunately people confirmed the VA would not be Rick Simmonds
