Windows 11 and Wireless Xbox one Controller, possible?

I am running windows 11 and I have a wireless xbox one controller. I have done the following, and I can't get the game to "understand" I have a controller. Is there something else I need to do?

I have win 11 and xbox one pad and it automatically detects xbox one pad. This game has native xinput support so you don't need neither dinput8.dll nor steam input. get rid of dinput8.dll and try disabling steam input. steam settings-> controller->general controller settings-> untick everything in there.
