I haven't found any universal button remapping software like Xpadder or joy2key that work properly for Audition, but if your gamepad/controller has specific drivers for remapping or if you can program the inputs to be keyboard codes it would work.
Guitar mode has its own GC thankfully, but that thing you have to buy separately from Redbana Warehouse (and I'm not sure if they still have some in stock nowadays). Most of the songs are designed for keyboard anyway - you gotta be hardcore to beat hem on GC (i.e the 4k-8k hammers on Bang! level 4 Crazy)
It just makes me wish I was playing guitar hero or rock band again. There I can literally Expert any song. On guitar mode here I can't even go past lvl 2 because of the stupid button lock where I can only press two buttons on the same line thing. In fact I think Im horrible with guitar on keyboard. Gimmie controller and I will rip through the game.
Must be your keyboard/language settings; make sure you use the default English one and turn off any typing software. Or your keyboard is simply not accepting ZXCV M<>? combination for whatever reason, I never had that problem though.
Using the GC is not so easy though, you gotta have large hands or the button will be too hard to press down
