No need adaptor for wired version of the gamepad, and anyway the wireless gamepad is not compatible with some games, so better getting wired.
There's no windows version.
The gamepad is the same, same exact model, the drivers on a CD are just to avoid anyway, better to download the drivers fully updated on microsoft website.

on this game i even pluged in ps3 controller no go they all come up under windows and calibrate fine just dont work in game so i guess i need to look for xbox controller for pc thanks

And if you plan to buy a gamepad just for PC, better getting a Xinput that is officially reconized by TONS of games instead of unreconized one in most of games and have to assign keyboard keys on every games and also giving a bit more latency.
