SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

Mekeji Sep 29, 2015 @ 11:52am
I just wanted to make some observations on the PC port.
While most of the textures are PS3, I am noticing that the models are not, and some of the soldiers look better than others. I only played one stage as I was checking performance with MSIAB. It seems any peasant models look absolutely attrotious. However the enemy armored samurai look passable. I'm not sure if that is the case in the PS3 version or not, but I felt I should bring it up. Also judging by the curve on some of the helms it look like the models for the soldiers, at least armored samurai, are those of the PS4, even if their textures are PS3.

Now onto the actual load. (I only played a little)

My specs are as follow
CPU: i5-4670k
RAM: 8GB
GPU: 760
(other details not really important)

Now when it came to the game running it properly uses all 4 cores as it should. However with the game running and me fighting I never went above 20% on any core other than core 2 which spiked at 30%. Which is very little for my dinky old processor.

Then my GPU comes into play which is, again not all that great and needs to be upgraded bad. It isn't really getting past 30 even when it starts to get close it doesn't jump over. All the while I stay at a solid 60 through any of the effects. Which I would like to talk about next. The effects which do still seem to be passable, even if the texture work is dodgy as hell. (I will link my screen shots of wall licking and a super move) ((didn't get any of the armored samurai I was talking about in my earlier section))

Over all the game basically does nothing to slightly exert the PC so while it is a half ♥♥♥♥♥ port, it could probably run on a potato. Though I would like to bring up the fact that the cutscenes are all 30fps so you might get a bit of strain if you get eye strain from the frame rate dropping for the event cutscenes, which happen rapidly and with little warning.

Basically it is another half ♥♥♥♥♥ port by Koei that can't be explained. As they could have easily used the PS4 textures since the engine is optimized well enough to where my crappy PC can barely tell I even opened a game. It is basically thinking "Wow did he just open mine sweeper or pong?"

LOL I didn't know there was a name for the method of getting the camera to zoom up close by making your character get close to the wall. I'll have to remember that.

But yeah, the fodder troops look terrible. I noticed it especially on their hands in the first wall-licking shot, as well as their spears.

How are the psot processing effects? Ps4 version is quite attractive due to some nice lighting and post. These seem missing entirely in pc version

well how often do u look at the enemys in a close up? most of the time u just hack and slash across the map and dosent want to win a beauty contest with the visual look of the troops xD

Is max resolution 1080p like other Omega Force games?

I agree. The trash mobs could look like FF7 block characters for all I care (not like they look impressive with PS4 graphics anyway).

I would imagine, I didn't mess with the resolution other than getting it up to 1080 as the screen goes black for half a second every time to change an option and I didn't want to risk being sent back to the start of the options again. (it defaults really low)

As far as I can tell they are all gone, but I did only play that level and it was a bit of a gloomy one.

Yeah, it isn't so bad due to the faster nature of Samurai Warriors. However the strongest natural instinct of the PC gamer is to lick walls, and lick walls I must. It mostly is just aggravation because it could have been better and there is no good reason why it isn't as the game isn't that demanding so it's not an optimization issue.

You guys still stuck at textures? It's not jsut the textures. All the nice lighting, particle and post-processing effects are missing.

Gee... which other Omega Force title that was recently released aimed to market itself as a PS4 port and then released with completely subpar graphics that were even broken at some points due to missing effects ...

Hmmm...
Hmmm...
Hm---Oh right! Pirate Warriors 3.

Looks like the 'bug' that prevents saving graphics configuration and running that game at full fidelity might not be a bug at all, ey? Maybe they just gutted the entire thing and shipped it out and then forgot to remove the configurable options...

If this is anything like any other Koei port (and it is...) then 1080p is the max.

Yeah, there are plenty on screen. They give that as an option. (I guess I should post a picture of the option menu, give me one second, I will edit)

Turns out I am wrong, they don't let you pick the amount. It is just there.

Really a ps3 port? I went for One Piece because first and only One Piece game on the pc. THat is a one time deal though, won't be spending anymore money on these guys till we start getting ps4 lvl ports at the least. Really they should be utilizing the PC hardware even more then the ps4, but whatever.

Glad to know that the port is garbage, better to just wait a couple of days and get it cheap off some 3rd party website.

Which is kind of weird, because the console version doesn't even have those options :P
