SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SW4 or SW4-II?
I noticed people other forums stating that SW4-II did make some decent improvements, but overall SW4 is the better option of the two. Does anyone else have any opinions on this?

I haven't played either game yet, but I am a big fan of the Warriors series and was wondering if I should get SW4 on PS4 or this on PC. I haven't been happy with Koei's track record of PC ports and the PS4 version of SW4 is only $25, so I have been leaning towards the getting that.

SW4 isn't the "better option," it's just the base game. This is a standalone expansion that improves on some of the faults of SW4. The only downside to this game is we won't have as much story mode and chronicle mode was taken out. Otherwise, I'd say it's a better overall investment.

I have SW4 and while I liked it, I didn't care to do ALL of the story modes (The Sanada is the only one I have left to finish and they put me to sleep) and Chronicles mode was a bit of a grind. Supposedly, the story mode has a better/different execution, and instead of Chronicles mode, you get a different endless/castle mode gametype.

Here are the changes listed from the KOEI wikia:

Changes
Hyper attacks will be more effective when ally morale is high. Certain areas on the battlefield are fortified to inhibit these attacks.

Enemy AI has been further reworked to match the player character's movements. Maps appear to have friendlier camera work for horse riding than before.

Characters increase attributes by using experience points on a grid in a manner resembling Conquest Mode. Equipment and heirlooms have been dissolved in favor of having characters learn weapon skills and weapon attributes on their grids. Skills have a maximum level 3 limit.

Attributes are renamed "Additional Ability" and operate in a manner similar to the base game.

Every character has an unique "Awakening Skill" they can learn to surpass their standard limits; awakened skills grant a unique effect when they are used in battle.

Previous DLC weapons now act as a character's secondary rare weapon. Players can alter weapon attack power and skill properties by altering its level; the maximum capacity for these attributes can be increased through Compatibility Bonuses (stars in weapon's menu). Maximum weapon level is 50 and maximum rank is 5☆.

Mounts can be strengthened to have additional attributes using a method similar to weapons.

Edit characters from the vanilla title can be transferred into this game through save data.
They can be used in Free Mode and Endless Castle Mode.

Offline and online co-op is available for all modes.

Event scenes have rotatable 3D backdrops and revised special effects.

So it seems 'revised'. IMO, if you can find SW4 for cheaper, and on a system that you play on often, then I'd say go for SW4. But I'm putting faith in SW4-II, personally

This is an expansion? I thought this was branded as a revised editon of SW4.

Oh, that didn't mention modes. Here:

Modes
Chronicle Mode is gone.

Story Mode
Features new thirteen character-driven scenarios. Players can choose whoever they desire to complete the five stages for each chapter. Downloadable scenarios have fixed conditions.

Endless Castle Mode
Fusion of previous games' Survival and Challenge Modes.

Survival Mode is self-explanatory. Complete randomized objectives on each floor to proceed up the castle. Enemies become stronger on higher levels yet they drop better rewards if defeated. Players can quit the castle climb by heading to the map's escape point or choosing the escape option available every ten levels.

Challenge Mode has four selections available.

Chamber of Trials - Defeat as many enemies as possible within the time limit.
Chamber of Riches - Hit enemies to collect a mountain of gold before time runs out.
Chamber of Agility - Race for record time whilst avoiding or stopping any obstacles in the way.
Chamber of Death - High difficulty room where enemies can instantly kill players in a single hit. Complete the other three rooms with a certain score to unlock.
Players can post their rankings online and compete for high scores. Strategy Tomes can be easily purchased in this mode's shop.

What you're thinking is accurate.

pretty much.

SW4 had about 64 story stages + chronicles
SW4-II has 65 stages + Infinite Survival castle

I personally found SW4's Chronicle to be kind of a massive drag in the end overall.
Can't say much about Survival Castle, they were kind of neat in Chronicles 3. And I love that they actually nerfed Hyper attacks, they were literally broken in the original.

I just rented SW4 for PS4 to experience the different storytelling and chronicle mode, then bought SW4-II for PS4 as the one I'm going to keep because of the updated content plus additional character.

Well, SW4-II sure got some interesting changes over the vanilla title like the improved AI, new "skill system", the infinity castle and others, but I would still go for the vanilla for one main reason: Too much repetitive stages.

What do I mean? See, there are like 15 characters to use in story mode and five of them have Sekigahara as the last stage and four have the Osaka Campaign. And personally, I don't think that this make the game enjoyable to play as again and again you will be forced to play that same stage again with the only change being the character and dialogues.

So much battles that will be missed(by me at least) like Mitakagahara, Kawanakajima, Okehazama and Tedorigawa for example, that could be included in some of the cast's stages.

I guess the only thing that remains is hope for Koei release these battles as DLCs...

Maybe after I play the game I change my mind about it but at the moment, the Vanilla is my preference due to it's stages abundance.

Just sharing my opinion about it. Thank you for reading and sorry for any possible "bad english".

I noticed on the main site that there seem to be several characters that don't have campaigns of their own. Ginchiyo for example. I'm also kind of surprised it's released on Steam already considering the street date on the official site, and others like Amazon, NISA, etc is Oct 2. Did Steam screw up?

Only certain characters got their own story modes, mostly newcomers and old fan favorites. Steam didn't screw up, Sep 29th is the NA release date and Oct 2 is the Europe release date. I ordered mine from NISA and got it a day early.

Interesting. Even GreenManGaming has it listed as coming soon.

Why didn't they add story from 4? ♥♥♥♥, I wanted to play Yukimura's and Masamune's story. And Empires will not have story mode at all.
Guess I have to get 4 on ps3. ♥♥♥♥.

I'm with you on this one. I like the game (only had time to finish Naomasa's story yet), but I am a bit disappointed that the focus as shifted away from the big 5 (Oda/Toyotomi/Tokugawa+Takeda/Uesugi)

How different are the two systems ? Is it possible that they would port SW4 stages to SW4-ii as DLC ? Or is it a longshot ?

I know, I wish they'd redo Ginchiyo's campaign from II. Guess I'll have to wait until Samurai Warriors V. *Sigh*
