What's with the nonstop updates

Every few days there seems to be an update downloaded via steam. What's new? What's changed?

Yes there are some itterations on the engine done so it would be running properly for diverent situations. They are doing small things to see if that works alright and need to do that to let it run smoothly, at least to try to lol.

Development for this stopped years ago. I haven't gotten any updates. You should take note of update sizes. If it's only a few kb, it's usually just little system files that Steam thinks you need and not an actual game update.

Like I said, when an update is this small, it's not a game update. It's Steam updating system files that the game might be dependant on.

Is there anything with active development that compares to Google Earth VR? Or did it get good enough that nothing more is needed in this genre?

It runs off adjacent servers to the browser Google Earth so it gets map and photo updates. It's just that the VR app isn't worked on anymore so things like the UI and features won't be updated anymore.

Not exactly like Google Earth, but I use Wander a lot. It uses Google Street View data and allows you to stand and "walk" in the Street View photosphere pictures.

I don't like how they have the time stamps now. Almost impossible to read. I liked it better on random buildings with the bigger numbers.

I read today that google maps/earth are getting new features and improvements. I'm hoping that includes earthvr

Work isn't being done on it. It hasn't gotten a real update since 2018. It's just Steam updating system files.

"Wooorld" and "Wander" on the quest are the nearest actively-worked-on software like this. (wander is just street view without the flying, wooorld has some socials)

Google isnt touching this. They are absolutely incapable of supporting/maintaining any piece of software other than their search engine for more than a couple years before saying ♥♥♥♥ you and abandoning it.
