Save Import / Export from Kongregate: The Method

Update: Apparently the storage method has been changed and you'd need to replace the save data both in registry and the file. I can't provide further instructions because I haven't done that. Please refer to further down the thread for possible solutions.

If you really want to import your save from Kongregate, do the following:
1.) Make sure you're playing on Earth
2.) Go to the Stats & Swag screen
3.) Export your save (this copies a long string into your clipboard)
4.) Make sure the steam version is closed
5.) Open your Steam/userdata folder
6.) Find the 346900 folder, this is the AppID for AdCap
7.) Open the remote/gamestate.sav file with a good text editor (Notepad++ or similar)
8.) Paste your exported save data, save the file
9.) ...
10.) Open AdCap and enjoy your online save on the steam version!

Disclaimers:
- This should work with an exported game from any site - but I haven't tested that.
- I do not play the Android and iPhone versions, so I don't know where their save files are located.
- I have not tested if this affects steam achievements, but you should be able to soft reset and power through the progression.
- I do not know if this imports your paid multipliers, since my x3 multi on Kong was apparently lost somewhen last year.

Works just fine, you actually have to use Notepad++. I kept everything except for the moon and what not. I assume it's not available yet in the PC version. This should be stickied.

I looked at a way of importing the saves myself to help people who played this on Kongregate.

I searched the registry and found a gamestate key there. It contains the same data as in the userdata folder. If anyone has problems importing their saves it may be worth overwriting both the gamestate.sav file and the registry entry.

Oh, yeah, I completely forgot the registry saves - which are, imho, a bit silly to be the default and usually recommended way in Unity Engine anyway, but I digress.

Can't seem to get this to work.

How would I go about editing the registry files for it if that's the issue?

Edit: Firgured it out, they're syncing from their servers every time you load the game.

Workaround:
Disconnect from the internet
Change the gamestate file to your export
Load the game (STILL DISCONNECTED)
Reconnect to the internet
Let it play for a bit
Close the game
Reopen and enjoy your save

Simply curious, why wasn't an import feature added for the steam client? It seems like quite the hassle to have to fix this manually. I only just started playing the other day after seeing Sodapoppin play it, so I only had like 190 angels, but I see you have quite the large fan base.

Really like the game though! Extremely addicting.

The fix posted does not work, as far as I can tell, but I suppose you an still e-mail them.

I want to give another solution for this. I had the problem that my savegame from steam wasnt the same state as on another computer. Steamcloud is activated and synced but still i never had the same savegame on another computer. So here is what i did:

First of all, i did overwrite my old string of the savegame file with the new one like op explained already


2nd go to regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyper Hippo Productions Ltd.\AdVenture Capitalist!
There are 2 entries:
GameState_Earth_xxxxxxxxxx
GameState_xxxxxxxxxx
They both have a value, which is the string of your savegame file.
So i just replaced the value with the new savegame string.
After that, i had the same gamestate as on my other computer.

NOTE:when editing the value, it may occour blank. Just hit ctrl+a to mark everything and press backspace. after that paste in your new string

Dont forget to backup your registry before editing!

Just a technical note to those tinkering in the registry: Always back the registry up BEFORE you make changes, any changes whatsoever.
