AdVenture Capitalist like Clicker heroes?

I've been reading a few comments and reviews about this game and got the feeling that it's just like Clicker heroes, with the buing upgrades and ascending to gain bonuses and stuff.

Is this true?

Well, the clicking part is true, but only in the first moments of the game. It's more like an idle game...

It is an idle game, most idle games are the same.
Tbh, when I originally played both of them on Kongregate by the end of last year I thought that Clicker Heroes was a bit more fun (probably thanks to the animations) but since AdVenture Capitalist is now on Steam and has achievements (also downloaded in less than a minute for me) I like this more.

I dont think there is any difference, except that the Steam version has achievements on Steam

The new space update will be coming soon, according to the devs. The version on Steam is behind the Kongregate one.

They should speed up the steam one past the kongregate one for obvious reasons..........

They probably plan on using kongregate to test builds before putting it onto steam. They had a separate game for beta testing on kongregate before posting the "Space Race" update recently. (when they first put the beta there was an issue with the shrimp boat... I'm having that issue right now actually)
