10,000 angels for 3x profits doesn't make any mathematical sense
Hi guys. I started the game yesterday and still haven't restarted. I've read many guides on the game, several of which attempt to explain angel investors, but I still don't fully understand them.

You can buy an upgrade that triples your profits for 10,000 angels. But if each angel increases profits by 2%, then 10,000 angels = 20,000% increase in profits = 200x increase. Why would anyone remove a 200x profit increase to get a 3x one? I must be missing something very important.
Also, some guides recommend buying Louis Fittui, that manager that unlocks a "quick buy" button for upgrades. But he costs 33 BILLION angels. Why would you sacrifice a 660-thousand-times profit increase just so that the game buys a few upgrades for you? Couldn't you just buy those manually yourself (should only take around 20 clicks on your part) and keep the billion-fold profit increase? What's the big idea here?

Bonus unrelated question: I have initiated the space race, and both Mars and Moon are within 3 days away of being unlocked. If I restart Earth, will I lose the timer on Mars/Moon and have to buy them for a trillion each again?

Thanks!

If you have (for example) 100,000 angels, then spending 10,000 reduces your income by 10%. (that is, x 0.9). If spending those angels gets you a 300% multiplier, then you've boosted your income by 0.9 x 3 = 2.7.

Same idea with Louis Fittui: by the time 33 billion angels is less than 1% of your total income, you get a quality-of-life feature to reduce the number of clicks you need to do for basically no negative effect on your cash per second.

In other words, it's all proportional, not absolute. If you have x number of angels, then buying any upgrade that costs less than x/100 has basically no downside.

Get it now?

You have to realize that the angel "boost" of 2% each is actually applied to the base rate that you start the game with. After you've accumulated enough angels, that essentially becomes negligible, and you're running simply on angel profits. In the case of Louis, once you get enough angels, 33 billion angels is pretty much worthless, because it accounts for less than 1% of your profits.

But doesn't everything else derive from the base rate? Let's use the newspaper stand as an easy example:

With 0 angels:
Starts out giving $60 per click
Each upgrade increases it by another $60, so at lvl 10 it will give $600 per click
If you purchase the 3x newspaper profits upgrade, it will then give $1800

With 100 angels (2x base rate):
Starts out giving $120 per click
Each upgrade increases it by another $120, so at lvl 10 it will give $1200
If you purchase the 3x newspaper profits upgrade, it will then give $3600

If it does work like that, I don't see how x3 profits > x200 base rate, as profits and base rate would amount to the same thing.

100 angels are +200%, or x3, but not x200.

Your newspapers give $1800 per click with 0 angels and the first upgrade in your example.
With 100 angels, +200%, it is x3. $5400 per click.
Now imagine to sacrifice 50 of those angels, 50% of your angels, making it $2700 per click. You reduced your profit by /2.
But the 50 angels were invested in a x3 all profit upgrade, boosting your newspapers to $8100.

edit: Numbers changed because 100 angels result in x3, not x2.

It does work exactly like that -- but think bigger than 100 angels. Think 100,000 angels:

With 100,000 angels (2000x profit):
Starts out giving $120,000 per click
Level 10: $1,200,000 per click
Take 3x upgrade (costs 10k angels so now you only have 90,000, so your multiplier drops to 1800x)
Level 10: $1,080,000x3 = $3,240,000 per click

Definitely worth taking. But only worth it once you have 15000 angels (15k-10k = 5k, but you got a x3 multiplier so it's a wash at that point -- better to wait to 20k or more!)

Even if I did, No Man's Sky is coming out in June. I'd only be saved for 2 months, so why bother?

Simplest way to explain: These are seperate multipliers.

What is bigger 100 x 1 or 90 x 3?
