I'm sure that metrics show that Profit-A-Bowl and its new clones see a lot more usage of consumables than other events. That's because it's badly designed and almost requires them to finish all the unlocks. But I suspect changing more events to need consumables just to finish isn't going to cause more spending, but instead likely drive people off. I've never been a "whale" or anywhere close to it in any f2p game, but I have spent some on a few. A big part of that decision is trusting the developers to run a fair environment where my investment will remain meaningful. Stunts like these go a long way to destroying that trust.
* Also the Black and Blue Sale button is different because that event was easier, and using the button now is just a waste of time too.
* Removing the top 100 ranking will also make the top people less visible, and I notice, that in other games I also play, I am less inclined to spend more gold as well.
* However I do find this to be an effective way to remove the cheaters. The alternative is to check everyone real-time that they don't cheat and disallow playing event on different machines. I'd rather like this way of removing cheaters.
* I do keep a list of old events and how they work, and the original Black and Blue is different. However, I also think that it's also possible that they just can't write code and therefore everything plays the same now. The fact that they can't even sort the list properly in the Unlocks Gallery tells you there is a problem at the deep down core of their programming. So I'll assume for now that this event is just a big coding bug that they need to fix.
