Using Weapons as Items in Battle?

Greetings,

I was wondering if you can still use weapons as items in this game. Every time I try, I gives me the option to equip/deequip my weapon

Yes, you can. Go to the re-equip menu, then press up to select your currently equipped weapon again, and you will use it as an item.

To simplify it, I'll use the Flame Rod as an example...

Items-re-equip-flamerod-flamerod-(target)

So dumb.. FFIV requires you to use it as an ability and this one makes you select it twice.. too much hassle. They should've just left that part of the game alone. At least I know how to do it now. Thanks.
