Elliot Paige ("man") plays Victoria Walker (woman) ,wife of Helena Walker
So :
1. Helena is lesbian?
2.How "man" plays woman? This is weird
This is just propaganda
It is harmful for normal gays and lesbians
I hate it
I've never been in this situation, so I'm just guessing here, but when you are married, and end up on a tropical island full of dinosaurs, your main priority is going to be, "I need to get back to my loved ones." But that is not what we see with Helena at all. With Helena, her only focus is studying the animals and cracking this sci-fi mystery she's found herself in. She really gives no thought for loved ones at all, which implies she doesn't have many.
If she were married to anyone, and yet decides it's more important to study the animals and discover hidden mysteries, then that would make Helena come off as selfish, self serving, and someone who has no regard for those important to them. That's more like Rockwell, not Helena. Helena is the exact OPPOSITE of that. Helena cares deeply about those who are close to her, and puts others well being above her own (just take a look at how she took a step into the unknown to try to save Mei-yin in Extinction). I just don't think that they can make Helena married to anyone period without changing tons of what we understand her as a character from the lore.
Also, they're calling Mei-yin a rebel leader, and... Mei-yin is NOT a rebel, go read through her explorer notes. In fact, I'll pull up the one that proves that she isn't a rebel right now...
"As I slept in the belly of the armored giant and the storm howled outside, I dreamed. I was home again, in our little village in the Yi Province. It was during the rebellion. Everyone was huddled together in an empty grainery, debating surrender. Arguments went back and forth until at last I stood, grabbed a spear, and made for the exit.
"See? Even this girl would rather die for her emperor than give in to that scum," one man declared.
"You're wrong," I replied, turning to face him. "I have no intention of dying. I will survive."
The others talked about our memories not being our own, that the home I sought for so long may have never existed at all. Perhaps that is true, but those words are mine, more than anything in the world. This is not the end. This is not where I fall.
I will survive!" ~Mei-Yin Explorer Note #14 Extinction
"See? Even this girl would rather die for her emperor than give in to that scum," one man declared.
So while she did fight in a rebellion, she was actually fighting against the rebels FOR her emperor. In fact, Mei-yin comes off as the type that would find it grossly dishonorable to rebel against the emperor. She was always a warrior of duty and loyalty.
I am actually looking forward to the animated series unironically, but these few little details make me worried about whether or not they're actually going to do the story justice. Hopefully I'm not disappointed, but it just comes off they don't actually understand the characters...
I hate when LGBT is inserted almost everywhere
To be perfectly honest, sexuality in general is just over emphasized in media these days, and it isn't good. It's clear that they are really just doing it for the sake of being progressive, even if it makes absolutely no sense in the narrative. I care about stories a lot, I have a passion for it, and it bothers me when it's clear they just throw something in for the sake of having it, no matter how out of place it seems. If you are going to put something into a story, it needs to serve an actual purpose to the story that's being told.
Same
Putting a LGBT have to have sense in story ,not to put beacause "equality".
On the world there is no equality or justice.
Everyone is different
Someone is stronger, someone is more thin ,someone have more IQ.
So we can not be equal. We can be equal for law
Ultimately I guess my point is, every single part of a character, when you're telling a story, has to serve an actual purpose to the narrative. You can't just throw stuff in there. It all just makes me really worried, because it comes across as them not really understanding the characters from the Explorer Notes, the other big concern being the fact that, again, they call Mei-Yin a rebel leader when in reality if you look through the explorer notes, you'll find that's not the case. It just makes me wonder what other stuff they're going to mess up on.
Addendum: The fact that I care enough to write two paragraphs on this stuff indicates I need a life.
