Community Contests!

Every week for the foreseeable future we’ll be hosting two contests for our Community Crunch.

ARKitect

This is a title given to the Survivor who has created, in our eyes, the best base for the week. Survivors will need to upload their screenshots to the Community Hub, both the Artwork or Screenshot section will suffice and then post them in the designated thread, it’s also possible that we’ll see the screenshots in the hub but posting them in the thread will ensure that they’ll be spotted!

We’ll be judging the bases not on the quality of the screenshot, but on the unique designs, functionality, and the use of in-game tools available to you! At the end of each week, the screenshot for the best base will be featured in our #ARKitect section of the Community Crunch and will be awarded a cash prize of 200$!

The #ARKitect award for Community Crunch 12 goes to…

First place: Fyyshman and Jcyrus!

What's better an ARK pirate ship? TWO ARK pirate ships, that's what! Very impressive building, didn’t actually think anyone would come up with something like this! Inspirational really ;)

#ARKArt

The second contest which will take place is for the #ARKArt award! This is a title given to the Survivor who has created, in our eyes, the best piece of art for that week using our new Per-Pixel painting system! Similarly to #ARKitect, Survivors will need to upload their masterpiece to the Community Hub, both the Artwork or Screenshot section will suffice and then also post them in the designated thread, it’s also possible that we’ll see the screenshots in the hub but posting them in the thread will ensure that they’ll be spotted!

The #ARKArt award for Community Crunch 12 goes to…

First?

Well this thread started to look like those Art Galleries where people walk around looking at paintings and pretending to know everything about it :B1: But hey, you are more than welcome. hehe.

I adore the boats, they are both just so well made! Oh and the Paintings are great, hopefully I can try and enter next weeks art contest.

Its great that Ark can cater to both the blood thirsty brutes and the creative intellectuals.
Jcyrus Jul 31, 2015 @ 4:51am
Thanks, that was a lot of fun to build! :steamhappy: Once the plesiosaur saddle platforms are available I'd like to try a rebuild so it can truly ride the waves!

It was amazing that as many dodo stayed aboard as did. Several leapt overboard never to be seen again, although I did discover one that made it to a small island nearby, lol (it's in one of the night shots :)). I can imagine it on there all alone drawing a wilson on an egg to keep itself company.

no offense.. but i really think u should split this contest in "unoffical/privat server" and "offical server"... at least it seems u devs mostly like big badass castles(buildings with (mostly^^) cheatet resources... ;) - just saying^^

Mashed Potato Jul 31, 2015 @ 5:07am
Then can we expect the smurfs ? ;)
Padawan [FR] Jul 31, 2015 @ 6:02am
Thanks for that first place :D I think you will like next week's painting
Haplo Jul 31, 2015 @ 6:12am
Hi, well... after the Smurfs, will we have a chance to see some Snorks in deep water??^^

Everyone has access to the cheats and single player, I really dont see much point in splitting up the contest because some people want to play the hard way or the easy way when it comes to building. These contests are there to inspire people, to show them what is possable to do with a little effort (or a hell of a lot of effort). I know Im certainly inspired to play with diffrent building matirials in new ways.

It would be like trying to spilt the painting contest for those that have a mouse and those that use a tablet.

u right, more or less... but:
when people choose to play the "hard way", why "cant they win"?

-> building - and being creative! - on unoffical server vs. offical servers is alot difference. On unoffical u can have like x20 resources, admincheats, ghostmode to build etc. etc. You can try alot out by just try and error, that u cant on offical because of resources. You can make bigger buildings with "better" material without "wasting" hundred of hours to get the resources etc.

So ye, for sure thats different and you "can" be much more creative on unoffical/offline/x20 Servers etc. - and thats why i think they should "split" this contest.

excuse my english. ;)
Lusewing Jul 31, 2015 @ 1:25pm
But they are not rewarding the 'effort', they are rewarding the 'skill' and 'creativity'.

Plus, surely people are smart enough to do building test runs on single player with cheats before they try building something so time consuming and buggy on the main/privet servers? Most of my building is all done legit, even my roof that Im currently redoing so that it levels out and is flush along the edging. But that is my choice.

It would be like adding another split for people who used Dino's to gather resorces and those that did it by hand, just because those that did it by hand put more effort into it. Or even a split for those that built something by themself and those that had a tribe to help them.

(Also your english is great, much better then some of the born english speakers)

ye they do, more or less.

so i guess we are "forced" to play singleplayer with cheats to get this much resources to "try and error" to be "creativ (aka build big badass ♥♥♥♥♥)" and create winning-castle-number263? ;)
