Try putting them together in a building, in a circle butts together, so the eggs all fall in that small area, could also put your ovi/lystro and/or trough there?
They can also clip their tails a fair bit, so might be able to smoosh them together enough to save a bit of room as well.
Put this all on top of another pen with a hole in the ceiling for their eggs to fall through to further save on their footprint?
As for something vertical, sounds like basically just putting two/three rows on top of each other in a simple box.
Not sure what to really say. They're big, clunky and clumsy in the best of scenarios, no real way around that. Seems like personal preference which is the most acceptable workaround for you.
Or, if you want to get really creative, make them a merry-go-around-esque pen to put them in?
Might be nice to even see the spacing.
EDIT: btw thanks 4 the answer that fast ^^
Alternatively, if you want to get them to look decent without hiding them in a big box, maybe just make two rows face to face? Can be as simple as making a simple shelter to have it looking decent, with them "tied up on both sides of a beam" as it were, that would bring them closer together without looking so forced. Further enclose the shelter and you'd have a stable of sorts to hide them a bit more.
Full length rex looks to need about 10 foundations to not poke out, and then might need careful positioning and keeping note of head turning to make sure it doesn't start clipping. Especially if you don't appreciate big boxes, something more open might have the lesser visual impact, weird as it may seem seeing the things.
Don't have anything actually built for my rexes currently, so can't give screenshots of that, but in case a visual note of their size helps, here's overall length and how far it reaches when turning its head:

It has no water access or similar advantages, but that's the flattest area I found, and I managed to get a big foundation area down there before. The trees also help keep it out of sight, if that's a plus.
