The latter is how I play: My main survivor is on the Island and I have 3 different survivors distributed on 3 genesis-two servers just for the loot from the lootcrates. I then transfer the loot via the transmitters to the island map. That way I avoid my main character being stuck on the genesis servers just because the genesis-two servers crashed (which happens very often on gen-two).
The OP is asking from a -Lore- standpoint.....
I play on dedicated unofficial servers where everyone is in the same tribe. I'm pretty much the only one left now, but I know the other players well enough that I can ask one of them to return to the new server where I made a new toon. They can then join the new server, and my new character can invite them into its tribe. Then I can transfer my main character over and that person can now invite it into the tribe.
That way my existing toon can access everything my new toon has there.
I always thought all the preceding maps were simulations too. But even I realize they show floating domed biospheres in some of the vids. And extinction is supposed to happen on the surface of earth. Then again, they could just be part of the simulation.
Yes, you're right, I missed that part. However, if that is made clear, I missed that too.
My guess is that your specimen implant determines if the character is the same one that previously existed or not.
Edited Note: There are some theories that we are in a simulation in what we consider real life. Even if it's true, are we less real now? See, for example: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/confirmed-we-live-in-a-simulation/
For the record, I don't buy it. It's not scientific (and of course, the way Scientific American frames it, the author of the article doesn't believe it either). If one believes it might be true, then Pascal's wager must also be considered.
But the state that extreme physics is in, there is currently severe disagreement. Forces and or masses that we can observe and can prove aren't adding up. Another edit: Dark Energy and Dark Matter must exist to account for what we can observe, but neither has been proved, yet.
May the Force be with you.
I've read this and thought I had answered it, see my text in the brackets. Was my answer wrong in that point? :) thanks for clarifying :)
Yeah, that's why after I get to the grinding stage, I then use my main toon. However, it's considered a different toon than the new toon you made. If you're playing unofficial or single player you can either do the workaround if multiplayer (invite a friend to the new toon's tribe, then they invite you) to gain access to everything your new toon made, or use admin commands to force claim them (which I found really tedious, but I suck at using admin commands).
Your post had nothing to do with the story reasons(ie story canon lore) for why the character is on the ship. Your part as well in the parenthesis didn't clarify lore wise either.
https://ark.fandom.com/wiki/Lore
Short gist of it, Arat Prime ( a location on the far side of earth from where the events of Extinction takes place) was the launching site a bit back in the past where the Terran Federation's Colony ship(Genesis 2's ship) was launched from seemingly. Arat Prime also had the capability to beam, even from great distances, people to the ark ship and that is supposedly how Rockwell got there after the aberration ark landed back to earth and then later after the simulation training for your character in Genesis 1 makes their way to the Colony ship.
So it would seem you can consider your character from Island through all maps to gen 2 to be the same if you wish.
However the same ship also has human storage data similar to the arks (and gen 1 simulation tek) where they can be replicated as well so you can also opt to think your character is new depending on which flexible way you wish to interpret and do things.
ARK logic.
