I can't make batteries?

Maybe I'm stupid or just a noob as I'm fairly new to Ark but have been having a decent time up until this point. I can't make batteries as apparently I need congealed gas balls that are collected via a gas collector which is DLC only content that I do not have nor do I have the funds to purchase at the moment. So why the heck do I need something I can't even obtain for engrams that I do have and aren't dlc content?

For clarification I am trying to make batteries for the air conditioners so I can start hatching a bunch of eggs I have without needing to place like 20 fires. The air conditioner engram I have, the battery engram I have, the gas collector engram does not even exist but still shows up on the smithy and I'm very very aggravated. I'm guessing at this point I have to just suck it up and have useless air conditioners that are already placed? Any other engrams I should know about that I shouldn't bother wasting my engram points on?

You can learn gas collector on maps with abberation content.

If you can't do that, get the free dlc fjordur and go there and tame yourself gacha. Gacha can produce gas balls.

But you may need to catch a bunch to get one that makes gas balls. Gacha are total worth. They give me mastercraft riot armor, pump shotguns, metal tree platforms, etc all the time. Which are great to feed to an industrial grinder if you don't want them.

Gacha can also make you spoil free organic polymor (It only starts spoiling once you open the gacha crystal), along with many other resources, such as green gems, oil, obsidian, metal, clay, salt, sulfur, etc

I do strongly recommend watching a video on how to find them on fjordur as its not easy at all. If you go the gacha route.


ALSO, on fjordur you can just learn the incubator engram which is better than any A/C. So long as your a high enough level.

If you own extinction its much easier to get a gacha there. Fjordur is NOT an easy map to reach its obelisks.


Alternatively you can tame/breed a bunch of dimetrodon. Preferably high level. Where you want to pump just melee. And they act as living A/C. HIgher melee = better.

Air conditioners don't require batteries. They require electricity, which you provide using a generator stocked with gasoline. All base game stuff. Charge batteries do produce electricity, but are not the only source of it.

air conditioners need electricity, so you need a generator and you need to connect the generator with the air conditioners. you dont need to download a whole ass map and transfer the dinos for something you even do not need

Ok thank you this makes way more sense to me. The game itself isn't exactly instructional so I've been using an Ark wiki to figure out how to do stuff. Funny enough I'm actually playing on Fjordur so that whole plan doesn't exactly help all that much.

Yeah thanks looks like I'm gonna make a generator. Was very frustrating to collect all the materials for something just to find I couldn't make it and the wiki I've been using to figure stuff out wasn't exactly helpful when it came to this

Also, if you have Gen-2, dont bother with an AC for hatching eggs, get an Incubator. https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Egg_Incubator
Little more expensive to build, but you can fit 10 eggs in it, taking up much less space, and you can change its temperature to hatch any kind of egg you want.
