Survival game with a time limit?

Is the point of the game trying to escape the ARK before the volcano erupts? Because I kind of like surviving long-term in games like this.

I believe the developers have said there was an end-game, and it could be possibly that you escape the island. Developers have confirmed that life threatening events such as a meteor shower, tornadoes, erupting volcanoes, etc. may be an idea they want to implement in the game later down the development road.

far as i understand even though these disasters happen you survive them and keep surviving and eventually ascend or something. But i believe it starts again, the devs haven't been clear on that

Really, I heard the opposite from them on their digest. That they DIDN'T want to do tornadoes or anything like that because of the time consumption and the many variables involved.

From the tidbit and clues floating around from the devs. It sounds like it's going to be a redo of sorts. I know they mentioned of "other ARKS" beyond this one. (One was an all water one).
