How to easy obtain metal from rocks on the Ark

Step 1:
Get a Pick Axe and start looking for rocks that look like this.

Step 2:
(Hit it with the Pick Axe) **Yes I know I am already using a "Metal Pick Axe" but these rocks work the best!!!!

Step 3:
Once you have got enough metal to put inside a Refining Forge to make "Metal Ingot", You can then go to the Smithy and then make a "Metal Pick Axe" which will allow more chances of metal to drop from these rocks.

**Note**

There is also another type of rock that has metal in it but the chances of getting it was slim, They have a slanted edge same size as Step 1.

You will typically find a good number of the metal rocks on mountain slopes and peaks, as well as along the edges of many of the river canyons in the game.

Stone picks on the same rocks will yield less metal, but will still give you plenty. People seem to be looking for the rocks in all of the wrong places, though.

any pick on river rocks i can farm up hundreds of ore in rivers more with metal pick for sure but stone works too

Stone pick works, you just get less metal. I typically get 1 metal per metal rock with a stone pick and 6-10 with a metal pick. Stop complaining and actually read the OP.
