Hardcore mode is what you want
My thoughts on why hardcore mode gets you the best Ark experience:

Your life matters, your life matters a lot and this encourages people to be much more cautious. More cautious people are less likely to risk themselves in silly griefing or taking many risks at all really and this only becomes more the case as they rise in level.

Living long enough to engage with the ultimate lifeforms becomes a much more amazing goal and achievement than it could ever be in non-hardcore mode.

Because many people don't have the emotional maturity to deal with having to start over sometimes, the server populations tend to be on the lower side meaning that you don't get the same sort of clear-cutting thatch huts everywhere vomit that you see on normal servers. Also a lot of the whining and moaning is gone from the chat because those people often just get frustrated and leave.

People with the very high-end level equipment or bases are rare and thus become a special thing to behold instead of commonplace. The entire game and all states of progression within it are thus far more valuable.

I could not agree more more! Hardcore is the way to go.

When the die, starve, freeze while sleeping are fixed, then I will agree 100%

I'm super careful as it is and non hardcore mode is rage-tastic enough, I don't need perma death.
Kromster Jun 19, 2015 @ 9:25pm
Bump I couldn't agree more, a few friends and I are playing on Official Hardcore PvP 341 it's amazing I have died a few times but with each death you learn something new to keep you alive currently level 39 our little tribe is going strong just wish more like minded people joined the server
GeekyGek Jun 19, 2015 @ 9:34pm
actually... hard core mode is abit easier to grief. now.. if i was one of them little no talent hacks... i would...

pick a least used starting spawn.
find a nice little hidden spot in rocks that can't be mined.
get a few levels built up.
craft several storage boxes to hide in that rock spot.
fill boxes with arrows, bows.
set out on griefing campaine as its already being done on regular pvp.
die? no problem, have a little hidden stash so I just go back, pick up the tools i need, and head out doing it again.

course this method isn't anything new, its whats already being done on regular pvp servers. With the proper tools, and hiding the boxes in the right spots, you've managed to set yourself up to have a field day on the server.

It doesn't take armor, high levels, or even skill to grief someones base, just a naked man with a bow.

nuff said.

Acutally what you do is start taming Dilo's until you get about 15 of them and run up and down the beach, thats how I see greifers on Hardcore servers, but they usualy do not last long. One message in global chat and the ones that are high level come to correct the situation very often I might add.

But I agree Hardmode Ark is a whole other game.

i agree but i will play this mode after release, for now e.a. + hardcore is a toxic combo. For now pvpve is a great choice.

I was going to wait for the game to be stable before that. If i were to make it to level 40 and then die because of some glitch, i'd be quite upset. Perhaps i'll give it another go soon though. Question if i build a base, then die, do i lose access to it? or just my level resets?
Kromster Jun 20, 2015 @ 1:23pm
You lose access to it because it belongs to the tribe so best thing to do is make a tribe or join one so that way you can come back and get invited into the tribe and have access to all your old dinos/buildings but if you play solo well then you're ♥♥♥♥ out of luck sorry

This is exactly what I did to get started. I have already found a couple of griefers, but they are easy enough to deal with once you get to a certain level. Also, the defenses I have made actually hold up since everybody and their mom doesn't have grenades and c4.

I couldn't be happier in this hardcore server. I understand the risk of a hardcore server, but it is totally worth it. Just the simple fact that there aren't as many high level people makes a huge difference. I couldn't make any progress in the other PVP servers because of the CONSTANT raiding. My dinos were killed every other day. It's hard to get anywhere in that situation. I am all for raids, but it gets a bit ridiculous when every time you log on its playing catch up.

In the hardcore server it takes a lot more effort to grief somebody past a certain level, and in general I feel like the people that grief won't go through that much work just to grief a couple times and get slaughtered by somebody more powerful. If it does happen, it's rare.

Hardcore is a joke. You can't progress from even the base level to the workable level fast enough to make anything defensible. If no one is left in the tribe you are just left with a base that nobody can do anything with and has to clear out to use the area again. It just took one guy 5 minutes to destroy 5 others player work by just leading a trex, or carno into their place since the whole tribe died no one could get back anything and they all moved to another area to start again. One guys said he has been with 4 groups and had 10 large abandon bases all over the map because of ♥♥♥♥ like this. The only way it would work is if it was like real and you could claim anything that lacks a living owner. this works and fixes the hardcore in 2 ways if an accident happens and you die you can go and reclaim your base and dinos, but you still have to relearn everything as if you were a new person that came onto an abandon site. If you attack someone and kill them or the whole tribe to the victor the spoils and you can gain their stuff. perhaps have a claim tool you have to make for each item would work and only if no one from that group has been there in day or two if someone from the tribe is still alive on the server.

I never played hardcore mode on Ark and I wonder. How fun is it when you die due to glitches and errors in the game? That's mainly why I would never play a game like Ark in Hardcore. Way to many bugs that could kill you while you didn't do anything wrong.
