Feeding your pets
I've heard mixed reports on how often you need to feed your pets. A dev had said a while back once every 1-2 weeks but they will go thru 40-50 meat a day. So what happens if you don't feed them every single day or they run out?

Your pet has a food value. This value goes down very slowly when you are not actually using the pet. I didn't log in for a couple days and my dinos were well above half food value.

As for your question of what happens when they run out. When the animal runs out of food, much like your character when playing, it begins to lose health. No food for long enough and your pet will die to attrition. Never had it happen though so this is conjecture on my part.

Depends if you're riding it non-stop or he's just sitting idle on your base, all lifeforms on the ark consume food to regain stamina, that's probably why your raptor is eating up a bronto-worth of meat / day

That doesn't make sense though, I can put 40 meat on a dilo and its gone in a few hours and its just standing there not being used.

If your character dosen't eat, it starts to lose health rapidly, the same goes for dinos I assume.

From this thread it says you only need to feed them once every 1 to 2 weeks - http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/615085406665254901/

Are you saying the meat spoils in dilo's inventory and dilo doesent do anything?

The devs have said they are goin to tweak the eating amounts. They don't want this to turn into an eating sim that many other survival games have become, and they don't want to add to that unrealism by making the player not only have to feed himself unrealistically but a pet as well.

Not spoiled, eaten.
Oh i think i know what your saying. i found that dinos with food in their inventory auto-eats almost imediatly until their food meter is full. they will then eat at a exact amount.

e.g (hypethetical value)
Food Meter Value 120.00
Meat Value 20.00
If food meter at or lower then 100.00, eat meat.

even though they stand around doing nothing, i feel the meter goes down slow but steadly if you dont pay attention.

Yeah, my point is if you only need to feed them once or twice a week are we wasting hundreds of units of meat on them? I mean they eat it but is it doing them any good?

i tested it.
Food spoils real fast. -> always gone the next day.

BUT:
Dilo, 10 Hour test, start with 459 / 459 Hunger. after 10 hours offline it droped to 439/459.
therefore it will last 229 Hours or 9,5 days.

Sabertooth, 30 Minute test: start with: 1518/1518 Hunger, end with 1515/1518 -> 3 gone -> 6 Hunger / hour
Therefore it will last 253 Hour or 10.5 Days.

this is consisten with what the devs said of anymals lasting 1-2 weaks.

NOTE: the test where done in a sheltered area where there was NO figthing. The agresstion was set to neutral (not passive/agre)

I hope they decrease the food spoilige, at least for pets. I know they've done it before, but still.
I left tons of berries on one last night, 9 hours later, about 100 berries were gone, and while they still had plenty left, I don't exactly want to go picking 100 berries everytime I play just to make sure my dino don't go dead due to lack of food.
I'll have to get a trike, hopefuly just to up the berry amount.
