Windows Settings:
Start > Control Panel > Sound > {YOUR SOUND DEVICE} > Communications > Do Nothing
This is a Windows function. If you disable that feature, then Windows will stop muting other applications and you won't have to keep changing your volume settings.
I understand that there is a function in windows but...
Ark is the only game that is changing my mixer volumes when I load it...if it was in fact Windows doing this then it is because something in the game is not set up right, forcing windows to derp it up.
Windows does not do this when I play H1Z1, Planetside2, GTA V or any other game with ingame/proxy voice.
Wow i cant beleive people dont know this... a LOT of games do it :/ heck even skype lowers everything else whe a call comes in.
Wow lots of smart people on here today! Then why does this not happen with any of my other games that have ingame voice?
You all don't think this is kind of annoying and odd? No other game I have ever played has required me to alt tab back to Team speak and mess with things to get proper volume back.
No other game I have ever played has made or triggered windows to adjust volumes on currently running applications that I can think of...
It may very well be a function within the engine to utilize Windows voice chat prioritization but it is not normal IMO or experience. Sure Skype does it..that makes sense.
Edit: Oops didnt see red eagles post XD
Also consider H1 and other games where both can coexist without issue. The idea is in these days of computing, you should not be required to modify system settings like this in order to play a game or use a piece of technology such as Skype and TS together. We aren't stuck with IRQ conflicts anymore.
+1
I'm not one to normally complain.. I'm cool with EA bugs, losing progress, rubber banding, etc... The sound thing drives me crazy though!
Yes and no.. You seem like you know a little about what you are talking about, until you say,
"The idea is in these days of computing, you should not be required to modify system settings like this in order to play a game"
I'm guessing you are younger, and haven't alpha tested before... Alpha testing is 100% about modifying your systems settings to get the best gameplay, and reporting to the devs what helps and what doesn't... That is how they optimize...
Don't fool yourself or anyone else into thinking this is a release game.. It's not. And they make that VERY clear.. The fact the game takes priority over all sounds is annoying, but claiming that 'these days' it shouldn't happen makes you sound foolish..... Express your opinion and concerns, but don't pretend you have any idea what you're talking about or how much work goes into debugging a problem like that..
I'm guessing you don't even know what debugging is.. You seem like the, "I paid for eet and eet shoold wurk!" type of crowd.
Educate yourself, express your opinion and move on.
UE4 initializes over the default Windows audio methods.
This is why Windows screws with your sound, and why our game does.
At some point, MAYBE it'll be fixable.
In the meantime, the solution is to disable Windows from taking control of your sound.
