I stick to the North West Shore on single player, because it seems to be the safest area, at least until I level up and have some decent armor and weapons.
Pro survival tip - kill something weak, draw things nearby, they stop to eat it - that's your chance to run. Same thing with sharks. Kill a fish, leave the corpse in place, sharks will go straight to it. A lot of them.
When you leave a dead body in tact, carnivores come by to eat. It's the only chance of running from a raptor.
They make great tanks and only die if you don't help them.
The first day i died probaly 10-15 times.
Yesterday i played all day and didnt die once.
Also, if you choose your spawnpoint when dead you will be in the "generally area" of your dead body but not "miles' away. You must have choosen the wrong part of your area to spawn. (1,2 or 3)
I have also noticed that there is a BIG difference on dino population in single en online play.
When i started single play i also died a lot by dilo's and sabre tooths (South area 3)
When i started in the SAME area in online play i havent seen 1 sabre tooth and LOT less dilo's.
Just try online version, choose PVE server so people cant kill you or your buildings, its the same as single player then.
And for some bizarre reason, the online version even runs smooother then the single play version for me :s
Run... run for your life. Starting out knock out dinos. Tool them down to kill them. When you discover you are out matched.... run. You will eventually reach a point to where you can build a bed. Since you are single player, you can put a foundation down and then a bed without worries of a player coming along to destroy it. Dinos attack structures but only when you are to close to it when you are fighting. So make sure to keep the hunt away from your bed.
Step 2: Focus on survivability. Adapt. Clothing, tools. Decide on your long term build (melee or ranged) and stat appropriately.
Step 3: Use big herbivores to distract carinvores you can't handle. Always know where the nearest one is, or a rock or set of trees to duck around/over
Once you have a bed and can respawn there, most of your troubles stop.
True. Always make backup tools.
I used the same spawn area and it was infested with dinos after my first death, I couldn't even find where I placed my chest and campfire.
I stuck to the beaches and they had hostile mobs all along so nowhere was safe.
I quit out and reloaded, after I died I tried another one of the north spawns and after dying once I didn't seem to have many dinos around, just a couple of little spitters and a carnosaur on the otherside which I kept away from. Managed to make another storage and campfire but I lost all the other mats I gathered and have to start all over collecting hides for a bed :(
And yesterday I hunt t-rex with my bully.
Soon i will change all to 4 raptor. Then well.. nothing can kill us.
Raptor chasing you? Use a nearby triceratops as a meat shield. They will kill the raptor.
T-rex chasing you? Use any creature to slow him down.
Giant Bird of Prey chasing you? You can't out run them.
Anyways. Think strategically when you are playing.
Yeah the north seems to be the safest area in the game.
Step 1: Get tools
Step 2: Get a few spears.
Step 3: Get a foundation
Step 4: Aim for a bed.
Step 5: Build your base and level up, until you can get the good bed.
I was looking at the map for some sort of death marker, had no idea you could place your own :(
I did all these myself, was really happy to see dinos fight each other :D
The problem is that the friendlies died too quick and the game was spawning lvl 21 raptors and carnosaurs etc in the north beach areas :/
I made tools and spears and was just collecting hides formthe little spitters when I got killed, every time after that I died just as I collected hides and nowhere was safe for me to even walk along the beach - hostiles either spawned on me or homed in on me before I could even look at my inventory!
