Dinosaurs are fridges
Hello, it's me! fatputtycat, the poo scientist! I was just sitting next to a trike waiting for it to be tamed, and then I noticed that when I put my narcoberries in the trikes storage, the time to spoil went from 7 minutes to 30! I experimented with other foods, and they all increase in time until spoilage when I put them in a dinos storage! This info can be very useful because food spoils a lot. I'm sure others found this out before me, but I just thought I would post here for educational purposes. Until next time, I'm fatputtycat, the poo scientist.

Found that by acident on my dilophosaurus, the meat went from 10 minutes to around 20 or 30.

This change was made shortly after launch to prevent tamed critters from starving as frequently as they were when folks logged off for the day. They definitely make good fridges as a result lol. :3c

Upon further investigation, my trike woke up after taming untamed so I killed it out of anger. When I went home, I tried putting food into my Dilo pet and it didnt expand the time until spoilage. Although when I put food into my turtle pet, the TUS (time until spoilage) increased. Is this a bug, or do Dilo's not increase the TUS? Or perhaps carnivores all together cannot increase TUS? Further investagation, and pooping, is required.

We like to think of them as food preservation units, such as not to pidgeonhole them into only refrigerating-- in some cases, you don't want to refrigerate a food.

Maybe it only increases it for food they actually consume? So you would only get it for berries if you put it into a plant eater?

What does a poo scientist do? Is it like that scene in jurassic park 1? :pooboo:

Yes, like when you need to spoil meat for narcotics.

I hope this isn't a bug. Berries aren't hard to come by and keep pretty well, but a good enough stack of meat to last the night can take forever to gather if you're playing solo.

A poo scientist studies the purpose and uses of one of the biggest features in ARK: Survival Evolved. Which is pooping.
