Health is never bad... but you can't carry alot or run fast if you didnt do weight and speed.. wait until you see me run xD

First I did weight to 200. Then I did fortitude to 34, After that, Oxygen to 220. Finally, I am working on melee damage. I ALWAYS have a dino with me, so my damage is inconsequential to theirs.

It really all comes down to how you are going to play. Personally, I enjoy 124% movement speed, 14 fortitude, 500 Oxygen, 200 Health & Stamina and it works great for me. Planned on living in the ocean, living in the ocean now =)
The movement speed has saved me so many times I've lost count. I can actually outswim Megalos if need be ( though I am very mount-focussed), I can outrun Carnos, Rexes ( most of the time ;D), even Sabers.
Health and Stamina are twice as much as basic stats because that simply gives you the feeling of safety, because at 200 health you know a Trike, a Raptor, everything has to hit you twice as often. So that's great.
And since I live in the deep sea where it's extremely cold most of the time I invested 7 points in fortitude to decrease the amount of food my character uses while freezing. I also have the feeling that my torpor doesn't rise as fast as my tribe mates torpor when I am hungry or thirsty. So I can actually go a long time without having to eat or drink even though I didn't skill those. Who needs to skill water when you're in it all day =)

Sorry this is going to be a long post, but I'll tell you the stats I recommend and why. This is geared for someone who plans on being lvl 71, and won't just be roaming the beaches forever in cloth/hide. I'll go ahead and post the melee build I would recommend if you really want to go meleedamage%, but personally I wouldn't bother.

Recommended Melee PVP Build
If I was to go a melee build I would go:
260 health (16 points),
250% melee damage (30 points),
30 fortitude (15 points),
120% move speed (10 points)
71 stat points total.

HEALTH
Honestly I think around 250 is a good number for health and this is because late game you will be wearing flak armor. If anything does enough damage to destroy your flak armor, then it won't matter if you have all your stat points into HP. 250 and honestly even 200 should give you enough hp to survive until the flak is destroyed or you emerge victorious (whichever happens first).

STAMINA
Honestly this is up for debate and I see the benefits, but I also see how it wouldn't help much. Most of the time your riding on a dino, and if you do happen to get into a fight you should have won before you burn through even the base 100 stamina. As people have mentioned you need stamina when traveling through water, but at that point you might as well get oxygen as it increases movement speed while swimming and you can dive deeper/longer. with 100 stamina and 200 oxygen you should be able to swim any body of water with the exception of traveling to underwater caves at which point you should get an ichy anyways. The only time I could see investing into stamina is if your going for some crazy movement speed build where you run from everything.

FORTITUDE
I really recommend getting fortitude to 30 to for the most part avoid BS knockouts. with 30 fortitude you should have time to hop back on your mount or turn and fight back if someone is punching you. Many people ignore fortitude and they get knocked out with 1 tranq arrow or just a couple of punches and thats not a fun way to lose. On top of the PVP applications this stat also increases your quality of life. It increases your resistance to the elements which means your hunger decreases slower during cold/hypothermia, and your water decreases slower when its hot.

OXYGEN
If you plan on mining Oil or exploring the ocean in general I recommend 300, this won't help you in a fight, but it can make your life hell if you need oil and you kept it at 100. A happy medium is 200. A guy in my tribe who is the primary oil gatherer has like 480 oxygen and he loves it because he can mine oil very efficiently, but for most this is extreme.

MOVEMENT SPEED
I recommend 120% (10 points) for almost any build this allows you to get away from most dinos, and allows you to keep up or maintain your distance from the average player.

CRAFTING SPEED
Just don't

CARRY WEIGHT
Carry weight won't help you in a fight that much unless your loading up on stone to prevent being carried away, but it also makes farming and general play much more convenient so you have to figure out what is worth it for you.

MELEE DAMAGE %
Ok there is a good reason I listed this one last and thats because this stat is good/amazing in some situations, and down right pointless in others. In most battles people will be fighting with dinos and this renders melee damage pretty pointless I don't care how badass your character is your going to lose. On the flip side when it comes to naked beach brawls or a pike fight out in the world you are unbeatable with a good melee build. breaching a building in an enclosed space you can take people out like butter. The best part about a high melee damage build is the fact that all you need is a pike and your ready to kick some ass. Another noteworthy mention is that melee damage increases your gather rate with tools faster such as the pickaxe and hatchet. Personally I would leave melee damage alone and just carry around a shotgun it has the same benefits, but I can afford stat points into other more convenient things. With only 100% melee damage those caves can take a little longer to clear, but with flak i don't feel like this is a big issue just bring an extra pike along. If your going a melee build you will want 250-300 health, 200%+ meleedamage% honestly 200 is on the low end I recommend 250+, and 30 fortitude I'll leave the fine tuning up to you. To make the melee build worth it you will probably be a little miserable as you wan't have much if any extra carry weight or oxygen.

My Personal Preferance:
To summarize if I was to respec my character using the knowledge I have now I would most likely have the following stat layout:
250 hp (15 points),
100 stam (0 points),
30 fortitude (15 points),
Oxygen (400) (15 points),
120% move speed (10 points),
100% crafting speed (0 points),
220 Carry Weight (12 points),
100% melee damage (0 points)
The last 4 points into melee damage or stamina is a toss up for me, but I would place them in one of those. This would be a build that allows for great quality of life, and if you use the right tools/dinos for the job you shouldn't suffer when it comes to pvp. If you plan on fighting close quarters with this build you better bring a shotgun.

If you choose melee damage I would also go with movement speed. Otherwise someone like myself can simply kite you around with a bow.
I would also not put much into weight. When it comes to carrying mats you should always have a Dino for that since you will never come close to match their carry weight. For equipment I wouldn't see you needing more than 120-150.

I alway do between 200~300 both health and melee damage, it depends the situation. But my main build is:
200 HP (20 points)
100 stamina (0 points)
200 oxigen (5 points)
100 mov speed (0 points)
100 crafting speed (0 points)
150 carry weight (5 points)
300 melee damage (40 points)
0 torpor (0 points)*

I dont see the reason to put more points into carry weight, with 150 you can carry 2 packs of wood and still can sprint. I normally do the trade of mov speed for m. damage, because you wont need them, never, and you'll be able to kill everything with your stamina (no need to say thats useless).

*As I said, health and m.damage are between 200~300, so IF I seed that there's a need to spend some points there, I would put, but still seems useless. It gives you 1 insulation per level, and if you play well, the places you, commonly need this stats, you'll carry some soups and other things. I see it as a noob stat. (If needed, bring one stimulant w/ you, why not?)

Why dont you simply use your bow too in this situation?

PVE general purpose hardcore build. I like to have a lot of room for error so when I do make a mistake it's not fatal.

I'm not at level cap yet:
50% of points go into HP
stamina: 150 -need more of this I will probably take it to 200. Useful for gathering, fighting and not drowning.
oxy: 200 - seems plenty for collecting pearls and oil
weight: 200 - I've had this at 200 for ages, seems to be the sweet spot for me.
melee: 115 - I would like to increase this but I don't want to gimp my resource gathering ability. If and when that's fixed I will put in more points, but it's a low priority stat.
speed: 102 -seems like waste of points for the way I play. I always have a dino guard or a fast mount to get away and early game hardcore you shouldn't put yourself in a position where you are up against something that can outrun you.
Fortitude: 16 -less of a priority early on when you spend most of your time on the beach. I'm currently investing heavily in this.
Urazz Jul 20, 2015 @ 6:52pm
Thinking health and stamina are the most important stats but you should also invest in other stats some such as melee damage, oxygen, and fortitude as well. I heard oxygen improves swimming speed on top of giving more oxygen but I mainly get it so I can stay underwater longer. Melee damage is pretty decent to get as well as it does make attacking with spears and pole arms much better. Fortitude does help a bit against the elements and fighting scorpians in caves so I always get some points in that. Weight has it's uses but I find 200 to be the most optimal amount.

I'm not really finding movement speed all that needed really since you can get some speedy mounts anyways.

Food and Water are pretty much wasted stats in my opinion as I never had issues with going thirsty or hungry really.

Any build that matches a given playstyle is a good one.

If you get hurt a lot and die, raise Health.

If you run out of Stamina frequently, raise it

If you are not satisfied with the number of hits you need to kill a target, or the amount of resources you gather with each hit, raise Melee Damage.

If you frequently get encumbered, raise Weight.

If you want to swim faster and for longer periods, raise Oxygen .

If getting cold/hot is annoying to you, raise Fortitude.

In solo/PvE, you are as good as your mount and your mount will rarely die. Most of your stats will be irrelevant most of the time.

In PvP your mount(s) will die, so you will need to survive on your own frequently. Your stats should allow for brief periods of resetting your position/ escaping/ dealing a final blow without getting killed, Again, this is a matter of playstyle. A sniper would need less health compared to a rex rider or flyer, for example.

Private server settings (if playing on one) and amount of lag, should also be taken under consideration.

Keeping these things in mind, you simply prioritize the stats you need most. There is no such thing as "best build". Your build is tied to your own playstyle.

PS: don't raise crafting speed/food/water.

So far at L69 I am:

300 health
200 stamina
200 oxygen
default food/water
240 weight
120 melee
110 movement
20 fortitude
default crafting speed

I will probably put another point in weight bringing it to 250 then not sure where my L71 point will go.
