Use tranq arrows. You can shoot them while they are flying and knock them unconscious. You'll have to be quite a high level before you can make the saddle for them however.

I used my scorpion.. few attack and it was unconsious with I thought 94% taming effect

Poison-dipped spears and arrows! How do you do this? I don't know! You probably have to unlock something at a later level (around lvl 20-30 I'm guessing)
You will also have to unlock the pterodactyl saddle to actually ride it.

btw I used my scorpion stings instead of berries hehe

I nailed a low level one in the face with a slingshot while it was walking around and knocked it out with the single stone. I didn't think that was even possible.

Unfortunately I didn't have the narcoberries to keep it under (seemed about the same length as a trike), so my pets had pteranodon wings for dinner.

If you have a friend with you, perhaps you could time your shots to all hit at the same time when one is shambling on the ground?

Its a Pteranodon. Pterodactyl is a separate species.

To tame it use tranq arrows or stones from a slingshot. Or hit it a couple times with a tamed scorpion.

Isn't Pterodactyl just a general term for winged reptiles? Pterosaurs is the actual name for the group. Although I believe there is a specific genus called Pterodactylus and Pteranodon.

Edit: By winged reptiles, I mean the ones that exist in the eras that are far gone.

Edit 2: Actually, I guess they are all just Pterosaurs, just some differences in size and the like between all of them.

Pterodactyl is an actual species. The general term would be Pterosaur. A lot of people just call every flying reptile the former and a dinosaur though which makes me annoyed :D

Even more people (on streams) have called the mammals and fish (including the turtles) dinosaurs as well. It seems that people not in the know call everything a dinosaur if its prehistoric and think it all lived in the same time period. I try not to let it rustle my jimmies :D

The article I just read seemed to infer that Pterodactyl is more of an informal name adapted by the community and that Pterodactylus is the true name.

"A French naturalist, Georges Cuvier, proposed that the creatures could fly in 1801, and then later coined the term "Ptero-dactyle" in 1809 after the discovery of a fossil skeleton in Bavaria, Germany. This was the term used until scientists realized they were finding different genera of flying reptiles. However, "pterodactyl" stuck as the popular term."

Another interesting thing is that it seems unlikely that Pteranodons would be able to carry us. A Quetzalcoatlus would be a much more likely prospect as they were much larger and could reportedly carry much more weight.

Disclaimer: I'm aware this is a game set in a science fiction universe. I am just interested in the choices of the developers of which creatures they picked and why.

Yeah that's probably the case. Just like everyone calls the sauropod Brontosaurs although that's actually the true name for a recently discovered new genus now. Before it was the nickname given to Apatosaurus that stuck. Brontosaurus is now a recognised separate genus.

Coming back to the Pteranodon. That's probably why in the dossier it says "People insist these are Pterodactyl but this is inaccurate".
