To mine metal. You would think pick, but seeing the hatchet makes more stone....any knowledge here?

Metal has a 1% droprate when in mountains apparently.
It's a little overboard, but give it time.

I trust that this will become slightly easier, hopefully a 2% if it isn't already.

The mountains are hard to go to, I feel a little more reward for being there would be nice after all.
Near no water, nothing but dangerous creatures and a far away spawn point so your body will not be retrievable unless you make a new base nearby.

Doesn't matter. Only moutains and caves have a high metal chance.

Well harvesting the island i mentioned yields me 2 metals+ per game day...low but danger free.
But i agree to Yuuki, raising the drop rate would be ok.

Ive found metal all over the place + a lot underwater.
Make sure you are using a metal pick.

how to get a metal pick if its hard to find metal with a stone pick

i have founded metal alot its just matters if you even hit right rocks once you have couple times hit right rock and watch how they look you find them more than you need

Yeah, someone gave me a metal pick and getting metal is way easier. The initial metal you need for the smithy and metal tools takes a long time to get purely with stone tools.
