Berries are horrible for re-hydrating, and are only good for getting you by until you can get to a real water source.
The glass jar is nice but it unlocked later so no good for a lower level player. But the waterskins still leak much too fast and need tweaked a bit so they are not useless like now.
Haha, nodoby want a button like that, just waterskins that hold water long enough to be useful, which they arent currently. By the time you need a drink out in the woods and grab your "trusty" waterskin, its already leaked out all the water, in other words, they are useless right now.
I know i had to re word what i had written in sense of it deeming useless for lower levels but as i say its a survival game and it ain't ment to be easy in that sense, Water Skins was for smaller things closer job perspectives untill you reach to the point you build up the levels.
anyway i agree and dissagree on both ways its all comes under your set up of choice, if you live more closer to a place of water then you might be better than a place where you need to travel out, Advantages and Disadvantages are always needing a balance dependant on how you think in surviving in weather conditioin's and what will then be worse later on is when disease and illness comes into play further on.
But as for the OP specifically..
First, you need to be thinking about water before you're actually dehydrated and this kind of thing will happen alot less all on its own.
But, If you're limited to yourself and a water skin you should be only going as far away from water as you -need- to. Certainly not far enough that death can be a real possibility.
You'll have plenty of time to explore the depths of the island when you have things like pants, weapons and more than a single waterskin to keep you going.
Rain will also fill your skin, remember to do so.
They do leak, but unless the player is running around while it's hot out they shouldn't be going through thirst all that fast. Also, they can be filled from the rain (not sure if anyone has mentioned that).
- I never think of water skin as a reliable water source, it is just a "bonus" at most. It may not be useful all the time, just occasionally useful when I noticed. But not entire useless (just may not match up to some people's expectations of reliability)
- as somebody mentioned, MOST berries will give a little water (cept stim iirc). useful in desperate situations.
- And waterskin can be filled by rain. if I actually depended on rain, then situation is defintiely dire enough that even a leaky waterskin is important,
But I personally wish for the feature that when waterskin is used, if it was more water than what I currently lack, it will just drain that amount and keep the remaining water for a second sip later, i.e. allowing multiple sips.
The waterskin currently is broken. If you are at your water source, get yourself hydrated up good, fill your waterskin, and head out....by the time you are out gathering for a little bit and see you need a drink, your waterskin is already leaked out and empty. They are usless currently because of the super fast rate they leak.
Many people carry 3 or more. Especially exploring caves. May not make sense to you, but you may want to try to adapt. It's a solution.
