How do pillars / multi level structures work?
I tried searching this thread for pillars but there's too much noise because of discussions about the obelisks lol. How do we build up a second level? Does the entire house need to be made of wood? I'm doing what I can to experiment on my own but it's costing a lot of wood to make these things.

I know you have to have a wood ceiling. My house is two story but it is entirely wood except the bottom of the first floor, which is still thatch

I plan to experiment with pillars soon by extending the second story onto a hill overlooking my hoise

So if you have a wood ceiling, you can simply place more walls on top of it?

Yes exactly. The wood ceiling functions as a floor for the upper level

You eventually unlock a ceiling with a square hole in it and a wood ladder, letting you climb to the upper floor

Indeed:) though do keep in mind the structural integrity system in game, too much weight on and the wall will loose durability, you can see the integrity values by looking at them:)

Ah. Thanks! I haven't even unlocked anything besides the wood foundation. I thought I could get away with just wood pillars + thatch everything else haha. I guess not, but that's ok.

Raptors keep coming to my house so I want to start making taller houses so I can shoot at them from above!

i have some 4 story hatch towers, you can use normal crates as a ladder....

Any advice on using pillars? Does 1 support multiple tiles above it? If I put them under every tile it becomes hard to get around that floor.

i experimented a bit with pillars. one pillar supports 2 ceilings wide in every direction exept the outer corners. it is possible to build pillars upon each other though bigger buildings on uneven surface are difficult because it seems top be buggy when it comes to sizes like 2 1/2 pillars between ceiling and ground
