Fix Night time
Is it just me or can everyone else not see at night? It's WAY too dark. Atleast give a brightness feature?

Yeah but I think the point of this thread is saying that you cannot do anything at night, thats a lot of wasted time
You can do anything at night that you can do in the daytime.
Anything you say? Go out and hunt then, or go chop down some trees, don't moan at me when you get ambushed by rexes

I do, all the time. No problem.

Um...wow. What?

They all give massive buffs, and the one I posted explicitly states it gives night vision. These recipes are not meant to replace meat for re-gaining hunger ... what are you even on about?
And again, who would spend time making little things that they "might" need? Then they spoil before you do need them

Tell me, where do you make base camp? In the south west I presume? on the coast maybe

There's nothing quite like being in the heavy timber, in the dark, as the fog rolls in and it begins to rain..then 'clank'...the torch breaks and you realize you don't have any flint...

And then you hear the heavy tread of a nearby rex.

Managing your activities between night and day is a pretty big part of this game.

Use the night to do the micro-management type stuff...harvest your garden and load up compost bins with feces and thatch. Take your time leveling up yourself and your dinos. Grind out narcotics, spread out meat in your inventory to spoil. Craft regular and tranq arrows....cook up that raw meat you might want for whatever journey you have planned the next day. If you get TOO restless, grab a torch and gather up some fiber from nearby undergrowth.

There's plenty to do at night in spite of the darkness that doesn't require you stumbling around blindly. Change your plans to suit the time of day. I've come to enjoy night in game as a time to slow down for a minute and plan out the next day.

Personally I think it could be a little darker. Ever been in a real forest or deep in the country with no cities around IRL? You can't see past your nose..

Torches, Mining Helmet, Shadow Steak, Campfires, Standing Torches, Powered Lamps... What else do you want? MY GOD!

Congrats to HellRiser623 for necroing a 2 month old post though. Is there a Steam Achievement for that?
Go to hell

1. You may have the brightness off your monitor a little dark. I had that in the begining and even when the bright moon was out I could hardly see. After setting it I could see much better, like normal nights.
2. There are times when there is no ambient light out at night and during those times we cannot really see without a fire or an electric light. An expected situation.
3. there is food that can be crafted that will increase our ability to see when it is dark. It uses some of the rarest matts in the game and only last 3 min, but there are options.

3. sounds like a waste if its only 3 mins and needs rare reasourses

If anything the game would be MUCH more realistic to have lit nights I mean really theres light pollution EVERYWHERE the three giant oblisks give off copius amounts of light, the supply drops are literly towers of light, the moon is always a full moon, there is no reason for night to be pitch black, even without those things human eyes can see in the dark even to a very small degree im sure someone can see a few metres in front of them

No, in fact it would not be more realistic to make it more brighter then it is. All of the things you listed, obilisks, supply drops, etc already give off tons of light in their surrounding area, but they shouldnt light up the entire island...because that wouldnt be reaslistic at all. If there is a moon out now that can light up a good amount of the island.

Ive been out in the dark many times in RL, away from cities, and its VERY d@mn dark. I live on a country road with no streetlights, and even with a moon out its STILL very d@mn dark. Even after you sit out in the dark and your eyes adjust its still so dark when there are no streetlights etc. The night times in ARK are amazing, because they ARE realistically dark. If you dont like it, well at least on PVE servers you can use the gamma command, but I dont think you can use that on PVP servers though. Open your console and enter gamma 3 or gamma 4 for even more brightness. Default is gamma 2. Use the gamma commmand if you want, but the last thing they need to do is make ARK night times brighter and ruin it.

There's lots of options for night duties that don't include leaving your home. Build about ten large storage boxes and spend the day filling them with wood, thatch, fiber, stone, flint, hide, meat, berries, metal, obsidian, pearls, oil, and chitin/keratin. Then when night time hits get to work making stuff like sparkpowder, narcotics, arrows, cooked meat, electronics, polymer, and cementing paste. Then start adding on to your building and crafting/repairing tools and feeding dinos, making fertilizer, tending crops. If you utilize your day and gather as much resources as possible you won't have enough night time to spend crafting all the things you need.

I also had the same problem and finally I found a solution!

SOLUTION:

- Ensure that the game is not running!
- Go to your Steam Library and right-click on "ARK: Survival Evolved".
- From the popup menu click "Properties".
- Click the button "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS...".
- Copy this text and paste it inside the text-box:
-sm4
- Click the "OK" button.
- Close the "Properties" window.
- Run the game and enjoy the playable dark nights!

[!!] Be careful when selecting the text above! Do not forget the dash at the beginning of the text.
