Latitude and Longitude Pinpoint
What is the best use for pinpointing a location on the map? Is there anyway to tell what your current position is?

GPS and if you hit ESC to the right you can see the name of your location. Also, Sun sets in the West so use the sun and the beach to nav until you get used to the map. GPS is the only way to get your exact grid without taking an educated guess.

"Midian has ARK: Survival Evolved Just now
Make a sleeping bag, throw it down, use fast travel option, rada you have a map marker. Now pick bag back up. Works fine till you can craft a gos and compass."

The blue obelisk is eastern, green obelisk west, red obelisk north (approximate directions).

By gauging your distance to these 3 you can get a rough idea of where you are. I've also found the rivers are good to use as landmarks, so you'll head in a direction of an obelisk until you reach that particular river. Then you know exactly where you are.

Noticed this the other night. Pretty sneaky way to get around not having an icon on the map for current position on Official servers.

I think it's sad that so many people so desperately need a map marker to tell them where they are. The upcoming generation is so dependent on GPS to tell them how to get from point A to point B these days.

It's literally not even remotely difficult to get your bearings and figure out where you are and keep track of where you are in this game.

The Sun and Beach helped us nav for days. :P I miss how you could use the stars in Arma to land nav though. Wish they had that in ARK

Speak for yourself. I always end up getting lost and somehow always end up at the very first base I built with my tribe(and I'm 27.i just literally have no sense of direction)

I notice that your map at least has grid markings.. So if you have an idea of what grid you are in (which you can derive from landmarks) that's information you can give.

This game sadly doesn;t have the realism of arma so you can;t easily get exact location using real world tactics but you can generalize based off landmarks such as the sun/obelisks/rivers/and beaches. Which is usually enough to find people. I've had no issue running out and picking up friends that just bought the game based on just that info.

Even though using stars might be a nice way to figure directions, how do we know if ark is set on Earth or not. People would have to figure out new constilations and distinct stars to follow. And for anyone that thinks arma was great because you could nav with stars, it wasnt all that realistic because in real life you dont see stars in the same position all year round, they are seen in different positions as the Earth rotates around the sun.

I have to run the game on the lowest possible graphics, so that makes it difficult already, and also, I don't really want to bother with memeorizing bloody landmarks in a game, in real life I can get through my home town fine, and in ARK I can find my base, but it's really annoying trying to find someone else esp if they are a new spawn, so sorry if I want a GPS in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game to save me an hour of wandering. I think what's sad is someone comparing the use of a GPS in a game to real life. Also saying upcoming generation means you are talking about sperm and eggs so that kind of makes that a bit moot

Why are you upset about people that didn't join this game to worry about lat and long, are you 60+ or something lol

ThE uPcOmInG GenErAtIoN- has grown to utilize the new tools given to them that are easier than looking at a map or "figuring out where they are" and just wants to know "Hey is there a way I can easily pinpoint my location?"
