To transfer your character, you need to approach the Obelisk. It's one of the massive Alien "stones" floating in the air.

Right under that massive, floating Alien stone, there is a console that you can activate. Once activated you'll be prompted with a UI giving you the option to UPLOAD your character data.

Then, you can join a different server, and during the character creation, you'll have the option to LOAD an existing character.

NOTES:
- You can transfer a character from one official server to another official server.
- You can NOT transfer a character from an unofficial to an offical server.
- You can NOT transfer a character from the single-player to an official server.
- Currently, the transfer is pretty bugged, so it's possible that you won't get the option to transfer the character when you activate the console under the Obelisk.
- Accorting to some people, you can even end up loosing your character. So use it at your own risk!

I found some info in an other thread, posted around 3 hours ago.
It seems that the transfer system is bugged and can even wipe your character.

Anyway, you need to approach an obelisk, they say, and it will bring up the UI to transfer the data. Again, it doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

I don't know what an Obelisk is, but it could be one of those "beam" locations.
Anyone who could clarify what an Obelisk is?

Obelisk is a massive alien looking thing, much bigger than the beam. I assume thats how we got here in this dinosaur planet using it. Anyway devs need to look up into this issue asap so when the servers go live we could then transfer our progress to them.

You CANNOT transfer data from non-official or single-player to the official servers. This will never be possible, as you could hack these files and upload hacked characters.

Server owners can enable/disable the ability for player to upload/download remote character data as they wish.

This is not DayZ, you get one save per server.

What about from one official to another? That would be fair imo, lets say if i want to play with my friends and dont lose the progress at the same time.

Yes, you can do that. You must make it to an Obelisk and "upload" your data to the Steam Economy. This will delete your character from the server you are on, and you can then go to another official server, and during character creation, choose to import a character you've uploaded from the Steam Economy.

Any chance you could change the default to not allow uploads to non-official servers?

I think most people go with the default and it does allow people to progress in single player, via cheating, god mod or giving themselves exp, then uploading to a non-official server

That's not the Obelisk.
Well, I got there but the only option I had was to "Summon the Broodmother", whatever that is.

look around a little more on that screen, I'm not by one anymore to screenshot but there is a button click it and it gives you upload/download menu

It is an Obelisk, but if you're not on an official server, or a non-official with character uploading enabled, the option wont exist.

Ok, I didn't have that option. I'm on the OfficialServer15.
The only think I got when pressing that button was "Summon Broodmother".
