'Fertilizer' is the best kind, and is created from a Compost Bin structure. You add poop (approx. 3 Medium Dino Poop, not sure about other sizes) and 50 Thatch.
In my experience, it takes 1 - 1 1/2 in-game days sitting inside the Compost Bin to turn into Fertilizer. It's well worth it, as it's worth several times more 'poop points' to a Plot than anything else you'll find.
But the best method now is Dung Beetle. They don't need thatch and produce insane amount of fertilizer plus oil.
But taming Dung Beetle is pretty risky at low level. If you have a good Argie, you can go to the cave and pick one out to tame.
All so you could grow some mejoberries.
