Use an axe on small rock formations/boulders for flint and stone, stone can also be found commonly on beaches just hit e on them.

Pick up tiny rocks from the ground with [E] key, and punch trees with your fists to get the first basic ingredients to build a Stone Pick from your Crafting Menu with the [V] key. Then with that stone pick, you can more effectively harvest resources from trees and other stones by hitting them :)

You dont need to learn Stone pick, its the one thing everyone can craft in the beginning.

Collect stones from the beach by hand, wack a tree for wood and thatch, craft stone pickaxe-->profit (the stone axe is in the weapon;melee crafting category)
