Has your game been updated to the new version ?
did you re-compressed it after the update ?
are you using mods?
I used stacking mod and creature finder but removed them
Did mods caused this issue?
All depends on how many mods and on what it is installed on. SSD and M.2 are much faster but Starting a single Player (specially SP) game with mods will always take more time.
I have seen many many players taking them anywhere from 1 minute to over an hour to load in.
With that said, Although the game worked great for the longest time compressed, may no longer work due to an update, I have never tried it.
Reasons for freezing can vary. Its a symptom of course so to better help figure things out:
1. Go to the steam help menu, click system information, and then copy paste all that here so we can see what steam detects for your comp and any afore mentioned discrepancies.
2. List -all- mods you're using by -name- and in their specific load order.
Mods are the 2nd most common reason for issues with Ark. (System info pointing to the 1st most common). Also removing mods in single player doesnt mean it can always fix the issue as if you've used bad mods, then removed them, it wont matter if they've corrupted the single player save.
3. Does this occur when attempting to play only in single player or on official servers, and or an unofficial servers? If you havent tested -all- situations, please do.
Since variables/reasons for this issue vary, instead of piggy backing on someone elses thread, make your own and post the relevant information concerning your system info and tested variables(since you state no mods).
Well, reinstalling may not work and may have been the more drastic option to consider but since you were reticent to actually provide more information to help discern the source of your issue and then better look into solutions that could resolve it without having to reinstall, that's a shame.
Good luck to you.
You could've just simply wiped your single player file and mods file instead of a full reinstall though but good that its working.
Always be mindful when using mods:
1. Don't mod glut.
2. Follow the directions explicitly the mod maker specifies to have the mod work in their workshop page for the mod.
3. Do not use old or abandoned mods. Always check the last time they were updated and any "abandoned messages" listed for mods on their workshop pages.
4. As a general rule, do not combine mods with similar functions from different authors(like multiple dino adding mods, utility etc) Mod makers do not always work with each other to ensure that such mods can work together. Worse, never combine multiple overhaul mods that change lots of things. Those are never intended to work with other overhauls.
5. Read comments sections and forum posts on the workshop pages for mods by users of those mods because there are often issues that can occur to be warned about.
6. Load order of mods is important. Too often players ignore that(which is part of point 2) and put mods in an order that causes conflicts. For example overhaul mods tend to need to go to the very top or close to it followed by stacking mods etc.
7. Remember the limits of your computer in conjunction with mods. As an example if you're using an invidia graphics card that nvidia geforce experience program recommends medium graphic setttings for, keep in mind that's the ---default--- game play considerations. Use of mods means you could have issues at that default and may have to adjust down. Worse, if you're ignoring recommended settings and pushing higher, mods can compound that. Ark is even after 7 years one of the more demanding games on most comps. Ignore that at your own peril.
8. Altering Ini files(per pooint 2) may be needed for a mod(s) but also too ini file altering and/or other settings can cause issues/crashes too... especially if done improperly.
All in all, the reason you often see posts on these forums about crashes are due to 40%+ of them being related to poor mod management.
Going forward then, good luck to you.
