Can't Install Ark Survival Evolved under Linux
I have been trying to reinstall Ark Survival Evolved but for some weird reason it says the game is 0 B and doesn't download anything.

even all my DLC's aren't showing up on the main page even though when I check the store it says I have them in my library.

anyone know how to fix?

Ark stopped supporting native Linux years ago now.
I found the solution to my problem, just had to run proton prior to installing the game and it worked.

still weird since this is the only game in my library with this issue.

Do your other games actually support linux though? Ark used to but pulled support a number of years ago.

I just use Proton for them and it works perfectly fine, almost like native.

Which version of Proton do you use? Im having the same issue with either Steam Linux Runtime version and the Proton hotfix version

I used Proton 9-4.0 and applied that before installing and the files showed up.

There is a native linux version and it runs great. You need to opt into it in the Betas section of the game properties. For the love of god, do not use the proton version.
That is really bad advice, but you may do what you want with your game

Yes.

The native version has some serious issues.

It is no longer updated so it could quit working at any time.

To even say it "works" in the first place is overstating it tbh. It has major bugs that have never been fixed.

Performance of the native version has always been only marginal at best. It runs much MUCH better in proton than it Ever did natively

You will not be able to join multiplayer servers or even invite steam friends (unless they also are using the linux version, and that assumes that hosting friends is even possible, I am not positive that is the case)

I know there are other issues that I am forgetting

___

In addition, proton is the Officially supported way to play per Wildcard.

What is supposed to happen when you try to install the game is that it is supposed to download the windows version and run it with proton. It would seem that valve has removed the "Valve selected proton version" from the game for some reason. My assumption is that it was accidental as I have not heard any news that they intentionally removed it. That is why installing it installs an empty game as it is trying to install the non-existent {current} linux version. You can manually force proton for the game as was already mentioned and it will then download the windows version. (btw the reason the linux version is in the beta channel is to keep it from being installed automatically. Tbh I don't even know why they kept that version available)
