Thieves using pin lock opening macro on PVE servers??
Just a while ago on one of my servers, official 234 PVE, players where talking about getting stuff stolen from them because there is some type of macro people are using to crack pin locks. Some people on that server where complaining about people stealing their stuff, even though they had pin number locked everything. Does anyone else know of this happening or have any issues with this on your server?

Play PvP Server.....Griefer

You people don't know what a griefer is, and I never claimed I did it on the PVE server I'm currently in. I'm saying I'm currently playing on one so it's not like I'm going around stealing people's stuff or try to figure out the macro. I'm saying doing that on a PVE server would be a giant waste of time. For PVP it is clearly I can just blow up some walls and destroy the box.

Regardless my intentions were of a humorous indication. I wouldn't take valuable items. I'd just take something like something useless and leave a funny note inside their storage box. Still I'd put some charcoal in.

You guys need to chill.

Maybe on PVP servers, there could be some type of pin code breaking skills hehe. But pin codes need to be uncrackable on PVE. The only way you should be able to steal on PVE is if someone drops something right in front of you and you grab it, thats it.

Bumping this because it's a huge issue. They need a lockout timer and to add passcodes instead of a 4 digit pin. Hell, you can manually brute force it if you're bored.

Just had this happen tonight, player called feelapino, official PVE 173, walked into my base and went through everything right in front of me

Bump. This effects all servers and needs to be addressed.

On other games is also a not editable Member-List that save every username who used the chest, locker, Dino or anything else. Would be also very useful...

I would like to let people use certain doors without maintaining an ACL.

That is an excellent idea. This way, only people on your accepted list could access your pinlocks and pets. This would solve everything, because if you are not on the list, you cant even attempt to open the pinlock in the first place macro or not.

Setting your door to locked without a code will prevent players from entering your base in the first place. While it won't stop them from getting into boxes because they're either unlocked or pin coded, doors on the other have three functions. Locked, unlocked and pincoded. When they're locked, only tribe members can unlock the door. Where as with the pincode, a player can guess or bruteforce the code and get in.

There is the option to grant access to the chest...like replace the "set pin-code" option in the wheel to "Allow Player", and when you click on it, a dialog box opens up to where you would enter that persons name.

Enter player name:

Bob

What do?

PIN code entry, and even keys, are really really awful methods of security especially in a video game.

They really do need some sort of system whereby tribe admins can select specific access to doors, objects, dinos, anything. Just use the wheel for a permissions screen, tick if you want tribe members, tribe admins, non tribe members etc. to have access.

Hopefully this sort of thing will be easier when they implement more ranks in tribes, right now you either trust someone to be admin, or not at all. And you can't stop people outside the tribe accessing things if they hack the PIN (which is easy enough).

Very good idea, just use the radial menu on what ever you want to control access to, dinos, doors/windows, storage chests, compost bins, food bins, it should work on anything that someone can steal from. Then just set if you want it accessable to other non tribe players, no pin code needed.

We'll put a cooldown after each attempt to make it stupid and impractical to do this, thanks.

^^^ This I like. It doesn't deter the griefer with time on his hands. Have you considered an 'x' tries and you're out approach? 1 hour reset timer.

The fact they are using a macro in a way not intended to open locks in game they should be able to is enough that something needs to be done about it, regardless of the speed at which the macro runs.
I'm not condoning the act, but the fact of the matter is it still takes longer to try 10,000 combos (potentially) than to beat down the door or have your dinosaur eat it.

Whether we like it or not, macros have been here to stay since about 15 years ago, and products only add to the features supporting macros. Heck my razer mouse that's 6 years old plays macros recorded in the included client software.
PVE remember, door breaking, dino eating, not exactly a thing

On topic the odd thing the game oviously tracks steam ID since an admin can whitelist/blacklist/ban based on it. Why not to container door locks for PVE seems like such a no brainer.

10+ seconds delay per attempt would be a neat feature to avoid this getting out of hand.
Chocobro Sep 15, 2015 @ 3:38pm
With proper tribe settings you don't even need to set a pin code on your doors.
