Yep. I built one to help someone new deal with the cold mountain temperatures at my place and it does virtually nothing. two foundation radius with a fast drop off and only +100 buff at best to boot.
I'm not sure why this thing has gone so ignored for so long, i guess maybe people just don't really need them by the time they can actually build them, but they are horrible. Given the materials involved and the need for electicity it should be providing +300 minimum over a large area imo. maybe make it only provide the best buff if its inside (currently it makes no difference if its inside or outside). If the area you place it in has the "shelter" buff, it should provide extra heating or cooling.
Or maybe scrap the + stat buff all together and just have it multiply the benefit of the "shelter" buff.
If they were cheap to make, didnt need electricity or were smaller/wall mountable. Maybe that argument would work. as it stands you are entirely better off having a camp fire with spark powder in it. It's cost is not worth its effect even remotely - and its effect certainly does not justify it's high level requirement to even make it.
-Space isn't an issue if you place them smart. I put catwalks at head level making shelves and place them in sets of 2 together.
-The resources involved are a one time investment, no need to worry about if your campfire or whatever has fuel.
- Space them around your house / base. First make sure your doors are closed, because this makes a difference as well. Open your inventory and check your hot and cold resistances. Walk a few steps away then open inventory again. Once the effects of the AC are about halved, you now know where you need to place another AC. Honestly though, putting 2 near doors and near areas where you hang out like smithy or fabricator do the trick.
While others freeze and hunker around campfires and torches, I simply close my doors with my keypad and go on with whatever I am doing with no issues.
not to mention if you build stuff above your head all animals will rubberband
Ever heard of Perlin Noise or Simplex Noise? Yeah. I know you have developers. Guess what. You can use that for heat maps too. SHOCKING.
You get double protection from having 2 near you. Think it is 75 each.
I don't "think" the temperature is based upon where you are. For example, when the sky goes orange, it is super hot out. I talk to people in teamspeak all over the island and we all get the exact same temperature outside.
Central Air requires being hooked into your furnace and duct work, so the airconditioner itself is NOT heating it's still using your furnace. The Air "Conditioning" Unit is just for cooling (IRL).

Thats 3 ACs and 4 standing torches.
