Why is the Hand Held Torch the best light source in game?
Torch > Everything

Campfires, standing torches, flashlight, mining helmet, lamp posts

Nothing can hold a candle *snicker* to the light output of the hand held torch. The first light source and cheapest to make casts more light, farther, than anything else in game.

Thants get this fixed and buff up those other light sources. The lamp post should cast as much light as a supply drop.

As much light as a supply drop? That's a little excessive.. those things light up massive areas.

I think they should descrease the area on the torch slightly, and increase it on the standing torches.

actually changing your gamma is the best light source who needs a torch on gamma 4

Some of us don't want to cheat.

Maybe give the torch a 5-10% nerf in radius, but give us a new engram at level 15 for a lantern, which has 5-10% more range than the current torch, and can run on one of 3 resources for it's timer duration + it can be stored on your belt while it is active.

The 3 sources would be... Animal fat, the lowest end, but cheapest resource, unlocked at level 15 as well, wax, unlocked at level 25 or is a cooking pot recipe of suitable difficulty that you have to find, and then a refined oil that is unlocked at 30-35 that is the best of all of them, but obviously requires you to hunt down oil from the depths. The lantern would give you a lot more reliablility for a light source, and allow you to still use a tool as well, unlike your torch, making it a significant upgrade.

Ability to dye the lantern to get colored light would be a nice addition too.

Maybe as a later on thing. Colored lighting is a pretty heavy CPU using thing, would rather not have it until we get some pretty big performance boost to the game in general.

The reason the other light sources fail harder is due to intensity and how Unreal works with gamma/shadows. In reality, if you stand next to a bright object, everything else looks super dark due to your eyes adjusting. Sadly that is the same "logic." so Torches softer lighting appears better and shows further.
