Regardless, any new game coming out should be able to handle a variety of display sizes. What about multi-monitor folks? Do they get screwed too?
Yep, like Eyefinity. But honestly, it's not like this and other games can't support it. Developers don't think ahead to have customizable monitor dimensions. Games I currently play that support 21:9 either import the current monitor size and frequency, or have an option to change it in the configs. Some of the games I play currently...
- Don't Starve
- Fishing Planet
- Gear Up
- Kerbal Space Program
- Minecraft
- Rust
- Space Engineers
- War Thunder
- League of Legends
- Smite
- World of Warcraft (and the game practically dates back over 10 years, the vanilla server client still accepts 21:9 resolution)
Some games require Flawless Widescreen (like LoTR: Shadows of Mordor), but some games can view that as a hack and could lead to a VAC ban, which is the reason why I post here asking for custom display support.
I don't recall if they had support back then, but this works fine on my LG Ultrawide.
1. In options, change resolution to anything, like 1920x1080, then change back to "custom".
2. Enter your resolution, 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 or whatever
3. Choose "Windowed Fullscreen" and APPLY
The menus and chat box are still centered for 16:9, but it doesn't get scaled and the gameplay looks great. Also, ARK team announced ultrawide support coming so they may improve this experience a bit now that ultrawide displays have come down in price.
